Thoughts on names (i.e HELP!)

I'm sitting at my desk, bored to tears and trying hard come up with names for this baby should it turn out to be a girl so I'm turning to you girls for some thoughts.  If it should be a boy, his name is settled, Jack William, I know Jack is very popular but it's my grandfathers name so popularity is out the window, William is John's middle name, my other grandfathers name and his grandfathers name.

So for girls names...We want to use my Nana's middle name May or her first name with a letter change (she hated her first name and would roll in her grave at the thought of us using it), so it will be Elise and not Elsie.  Catherine's middle name, Marie is my mom's, MIL's and John's grandmothers middle name so using my Nana's name is important.

So for the first names this is all we have and still can't seem to agree, so far Anna-Claire is my favorite but that could change next week.

Paige, Julianna, Julia, Anna, Anna-Claire

Re: Thoughts on names (i.e HELP!)

  • Hi Caro.

I actually love the name Elise as the first name (just my two cents).  I also love Paige and Julia.

  • Why not Elsie May S?

    According to babynames.com:

Elsie, a derivative of Elizabeth, means "God is my Oath."

    Anna-Claire means Gracious/Merciful-Illustrious.

    Paige means assistant.

Julianna & Julia are feminine forms of Julian, meaning youthful or downy.

  • Emily Mae is my goddaughters name.  Mae was her great grandmother's middle name.

  • I like the name Elise also. That is my mom's middle name and has always been an idea in my head :)
  • I actually love the name Elizabeth but unfortunatly our very good friends lost their first daughter at birth and her name was Elizabeth so it's out for us.  (not to freak out the pg ladies, they knew that she wouldn't survive outside of the womb from very early on, so PLEASE don't worry)

Paige is also a favorite, it would have to be Paige Elise, using May would give the her the initials of PMS.

I'm open to suggestions, we like the strong, classic names with an English background.

    We find out November 17.

I didn't realize you guys were finding out, how exciting!  Like I said, I really like Paige and Julia is my second favorite.  I also love the name Jack William if the baby is a boy...even more since it is a family name.

Sorry, mean Elise May, since she didn't like Elsie. LOL

  • I think I like Elise out of all of them.  I'm not a fan of Paige, just because of someone I know with that name.

I know you didn't ask for other suggestions but I like these combinations:

    Clara Mae

    Clara Elise

    Sophia Mae

    Sophia Elise

  • I love the name Elise!  I am very big on using family names as well.  Second fave would be Clara Mae!
  • I am partial to Anna since that is our girl name!  I like Anna with May or Elise.  I like Anna-Claire but I'm not a huge fan of hyphenated (sp?) names.  I'd use it as first name Anna middle name Claire.

  • Thanks ladies.  Last night John nixed Anna, granted he saw something about Anna Nicole Smith and that was it, so that's it the name is off the list.  He likes Julia, there is a Saint Julia (and her story is wonderful), Julia was John Lennons mothers name (I know, but he's a Beatles fan), so that's back to being at the top of the list, it started there but fell off for some reason.

Elise is growing on me, the more I say it the more I like it.

My friend has this theory and she is yet to be proven wrong, that if you have name picked out for one sex but can't decide on the name for the other sex it means that you are having that sex.  Like I said she has yet to be wrong, so more than likely we're having a boy and his name is Jack.  With Cate we had her name right away, we couldn't decide for a boy if he was going to be a John William II and call him Jack (my grandad is actually John but has been called Jack his whole life) or if we were going to go with just Jack, we decided on Jack.  My grandad is also convinced that this baby is boy and he is so excited that we are naming him after him, I think I'd be devestated to tell him if it's a girl, not that he would care but he's just thrilled.

  • I love the name Elise! My grandma's name was Elsie but I never thought to just change the letters to make it Elise.

My second favorite is Julia. We liked Julia and Jack as names but my SIL expressed how much she wanted to use them so we ruled them out. I can't wait to hear what you're having and if your friend's theory is correct!

  • Caro, your friends theory sounds similar to my situation. Weve had a boys name for over a year and had trouble with a girls name and surprise were having a boy so maybe your friend is right :)
