Baking Fail

My goal: change my pumpkin cheesecake recipe from slices to bars.

Well it might have worked if I wasn't so distracted and had not put in 1 cup of sugar when it called for 1 tsp for the crust. Or maybe if I had not put in 2 cups of pumpkin when it called for 1 cup.

Lesson learned: only bake where you know you won't be distracted and not at the IL's place.  At least the IL's liked it even if I didn't, haha.

Re: Baking Fail

  • I've done stuff like that before.  Except I tried taking out the extra which didn't work so well.
  • Oh, no. What a bummer. So...didn't they taste pretty funny? I am surprised they like them anyway.
  • They tasted way too rich and they had more of a pumpkin pie consistancy rather than cheese cake.

  • I did that with a graham cracker crust once! H was "helping" by reading the ingredients (he wanted to feel useful, lol). So he said 1 C sugar- and I said "are you sure" - he looked at it again and said "Yes- 1 C sugar". So I went with it.

The crust was SO hard because the sugar crystallized and made a hard sheet of graham crackery sweetness, lol--- the cheesecake was good- the crust was just SUPER hard, lol.  I re-read it after and it said 1-tsp. He said "oops- I must have been looking at the sugar for the filling mixture not the crust"- uh, you think so? :p  It was funny- but at least it was still yummy- at least what you could eat of it was yummy :)

That is exactly what I did, LOL!

I did notice the texture was wrong though and figured it out so I added more butter and graham cracker so it would crystalize.

LOL- I thought it sounded familiar- its amazing how one small ingredient can REALLY mess things up!  Same with baking soda- add too much and BLECH! I was tripling a recipe once, and more than tripled the baking soda- worst cookies I've ever eaten!
