Is the H1N1 vax in Cincinnati yet? My pedi doesn't have it yet and neither does Kroger and Walgreens pharmacies.
Just curious!
Re: Anyone???
I'm sorry, this comment made me roll my eyes. The vaccine is made the same way as the regular flu vaccine, and the CDC is recommending it for people ages 6 months to 24 years, since that is the age group that is having the most fatalities due to H1N1.
It doesn't matter what other people think about giving vaccines to their children, it matters that some of us choose to vaccinate because we feel (based on our own independent research) that the benefits of vaccination outweigh the risks.
My pedi had it last week when I took DD in for her cough. Now that she's better I'm going to try to get it for her this week.
I think it's more the fact that the vaccine has not been widely tested yet, it hasn't been around long enough for it to have been tested a lot. Sure, it can be made the same way as the normal flu shot, but it doesn't have the same ingredients. Sure, it's a personal opinion to get the shot for you or your children, but so is voicing opinions about not getting the shot. I'm not even going to get started about the pandemonium the swine flu has created, because everyone is focusing on the people that die, not the MUCH larger percentage of those that are fine and live. What can I say, people have different 'paranoia' levels in life.
Oh, I will be the first one to say that there is a crazy media overhype about the swine flu, but there is also a huge hysteria being created by people about the safety of the vaccine.
My husband and I have made the informed decision to get it for our baby because we believe that our daughter is at high risk for contracting it in a daycare setting and fevers are very dangerous for babies because they can spike very high in a matter of hours, as is dehyrdration caused by vomiting and diarrhea, which is common with the H1N1 flu. Those are things that could kill a small child pretty quickly and at the least require a trip to the ER.
While I don't know the effects of the vaccine on children, I did participate in the vaccine study for adults. I had absolutely no side effects except for a bruise around the injection site and a little arm soreness for a day.
I've heard on the news that they are giving it around to local schools. My husband is a nurse at University and they haven't even received it yet to give it to the workers.
