Christmas Card Ideas?

I need a good Christmas card idea this  year. Every year, my cousin who is 1 year older than me outdoes my card.

DH had a great idea for next year. Next year we're taking our little red toddler sleigh (My Mom's when she was a baby, then mine and sisters, next my baby's), and dressing the baby as Santa/Mrs.Clause depending on girl vs boy. The baby will sit in the sleigh, and Harley will have antlers on and sit in front. This will all be in front of the tree. We thought it would be cute. However, baby doesn't arrive until May, so I still need a great idea for this year.

Any thoughts?

Re: Christmas Card Ideas?

  • What about wearing tacky christmas sweaters and sitting in a really awkward pose? Then the saying can be something funny (which I can't think of at the moment).
  • Okay, this might sound totally crazy but....You could have your belly be a Jack in the Box.  Somehow attach a handle to the side of your shirt and have your husband pretent to crank the "Box".  Does that make sense?  Baby=Jack in the box.

  • I have a Cricut and I cut out Christmas trees and holly leaves with it. I adhered the tree or the leaves to the ffront of a card. With the holly I also glued 3 red buttons for the berries and with the Trees, I glued 3 different colors for ornaments. On the inside I am putting a picture of us. Very simple, and easy.
  • I *love* leighanneh's idea! Go totally Awkward Family Photo style. I love the serious, hand on the shoulder poses, maybe with one person's head perched on their fist a la The Thinker. I might have to do this myself...my family would love it.
  • Good luck getting that picture next year. Our card last year ended up being a how-to letter on "How to Take the Best Christmas Card Photo" because I couldn't get my daughter and our three dogs to cooperate for one single photo. All I wanted was for her to hold a book and sit in her chair and for the dogs to lie down in front of her so it looked like they were listening to her read.

40 pictures later and I decided it was a failure and instead wrote a funny letter about it.

  • My favorite Christmas Card ever was a photocard from my cousin. They had dressed their cats in ugly sweaters and the cat was clawing her DH's face. It was hilarious. Both cats looked very angry.
  • Last year I dressed my calico persian in a mini santa suit and took her picture she had this seriously angry face on, it was beyond hilarious.

Usually every year I take my two siberian huskies up to the mountain and take thier picture in the snow, but we had a horrible snow storm last year and couldnt get up there.

  • Maybe something about working on your holiday "baking"?

  • This is a really unique idea. You could use some old Christmas pictures pictures of your family. Do them in black and white, and make the backround of the card red so they will stand out. If they decide to make ornaments out of them, they could use a pretty red ribbon to hang them on the tree with...
