We are going to be driving down to CA for Thanksgiving (yeah, first time I'll see my family since we moved here eight months ago!) and are wondering what to do about our dog/cat while we will be gone.
I'm not so much worried about our cat, she would be fine to fend for herself, but our pup is going to need some attention and a quick walk/fresh food every day. The Petsmart boarding service is interesting...but expensive. We will be gone for five days total. Any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks!
Re: Pet Sitting?
I would look at Virginia Woof. They are a non-profit (yay!) and an awesome daycare with overnight boarding. Your baby gets to play in the daycare all day, then he'll have a personal kennel at night. And it's only $35 per day.
I volunteer there and I highly recommend it, I would definitely take my kiddos there.

Are you going to have anyone check in on your cat? UTIs and blockages can pop up out of nowhere, and can cause death in less than 24 hours if not treated. I'd never leave my monstas alone for more than one night without someone coming by.
This is where we found our completely wonderful, awesome, amazing, fantabulous cat sitter (who has decided to stop cat sitting *sigh*).

What part of town are you in? We have a fantastic doggy daycare in Sellwood, it's called "The Dog Park" and it's on 17th and Umatilla. We've taken our 2 big dogs there many many times and they love it. They also have seperate rooms for big dogs and small dogs. They offer package pricing which is way cheaper than buying each night individually.

And I disagree with the PP about leaving the cat alone... 5 days is kind of a long time, but I've left my cat alone for 3 nights no problem. It's a cat, they like alone time.
Meh. I'm just not willing to take chances of coming home to my monstas dead because of a UTI or blockage. If they weren't such a big deal in cats I wouldn't worry about it. But my aunt's healthy cat who had never had any UTI issues was left at home for 2 days. They came home and he was severely blocked. They took him to Angell and he didn't make it.
And you've never met Sum. She hates being alone! She's a nut, though.
Even Mitzie, who likes being alone and doesn't like strangers, misses having people and will be such a wh*re to pet sitters that you'd think she's in heat.
Hello. I never post here, although I do live in Tualatin We take our baby girl to Stay Pet Hotel Boutique. It's a little on the spendy side, but it's the best for our baby. They are absolutely wonderful there. They live on site which put me at ease. Autz usually sleeps in bed with us, make judgement if you must , and they were able to check in on her in the middle of the night when she woke up crying.
They also always send us home with new photos.
HTH. GL finding a boarding
Don't have experience w/ cats but we have 2 dogs.
We LOVE Burley's Dog Ranch but it IS a bit of a drive; however the attention they get from Wendy and her family is unmatchable and there's so much (enclosed outdoor and indoor) land for play. Wendy only takes a max of 8 dogs per night so each dog gets lots of attention.
For something in the city, we've used Stay Pet Hotel a few times. Kim and her crew are great, very attentive and honest about dog behavior.
Good luck and I hope you find a place w/ space over Thanksgiving (might be cutting it close)
I used to work at Club K-9. Spendy, but the staff is really great there. Janelle, the manager is awesome! www.clubk-9.com
