Inexpensive Celebration Ideas

So MH and I have birthdays in the month of November. I'll be turning 30 this year (eep!).

MH will also be graduating in December (cross your fingers!) with his PhD.

The problem is that we have no money. I'd like to have some sort of a celebration, but our families are all 2-6 hours away (this would be for his graduation) and do something for our birthdays - but again - we have no money.

What can we do for those celebrations (and spend less than $50-100 max)?

  • I'm guessing that since they live 2-6 hours away, a pot luck is out?

And it's winter so anything outside is out...yikes! This is hard!

I will think on this and get back to you...

  • Someone I know had a soup party for a winter celebration. Maybe just have a get together at your house and have a big batch of chicken noodle soup to warm everyone up and have everyone bring their favorite game. Ok, reading this back it might sound a little lame, but it could be fun if you have a good group of people.

  • It sounds like you should have an open house after his graduation.  That way all you have to provide is food and beverages for everyone.  People can come and go as they please to celebrate.  And then who ever wants to stay after the open house (closer friends/family), you can have a game night or something.

That's the best I can come up with for a $100 budget.
