Costume help

Hi!

I'm new to this board and need some help in creating a costume for LO's diversity fair next week.  (I also posted on the Crafts board).

The country that her classroom is representing is India and need find an outfit for her to use for the parade they are doing.

I really don't want to spend too much money on an costume that she will be wearing only once.  I think of dressing up her in a sari but have not find on the web too much info on much fabric to use (she's 2) or how to do the wraping of teh dress.  Can anyone help me with this please!!

TIA

Re: Costume help

  • You won't want to dress her in silk and wrap her in 15 or so yards of fabric so I'd go with something that approximates a sari if she's two.

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
  • Hmmm...curry is used a lot in India. Cuuried steak and you could coordinate with another mom for her kid to dress as a penis with lip marks that look like curry.

  • What about a long, patterned skirt with a blouse and a bindi on her forehead? I read that young Indian girls often wear this combination.  That would be cheap, and the outfit can be worn again.  You could shop at discount clothing stores or even Goodwill.  HTH!
