100 degree fever :(:(:(

Alex has never had any sort of reaction to his shots other than being kind of lethargic/sleepy when he was very small. Not the case this time. He woke up this morning RADIATING heat and with a 100 degree fever. I thought DH was going to run him to the hospital on foot. :(

I called the nurse and apparently it's quite normal for one of the shots he got. He still ate a decent breakfast and we gave him some Motrin, so hopefully his fever will come down a little, but they said it could take 48 hours. I just hope it doesn't interfere with his field trip to the aquarium tomorrow! Poor baby.

Re: 100 degree fever :(:(:(

  • :( Poor Alex! Well, I guess you'll just have to snuggle with him and take it easy today...I hope he feels better!
  • How old is he again? 12 months? I think when Maddie got her 12 month shots (or maybe it was 15) she had a fever too. She never reacts to her shots. 100 is completely normal and shouldn't interfere with anything!
  • yup, it's the 15 month shots (15 mos, already, so scary). We just got worried b/c he'd never had a prior reaction. Esp. DH, who didn't grow up around kids. He seriously would have run Alex to the hospital on his back, he was flipping out (he's the one who picks him up in the am- alex only wants dada in the morning!).
  • Could be his teeth on top of it, too - didn't you mention he was teeting? ?Cute and kind of funny about your dh's reaction, though. ?He would have called 911 a few times by now if he had my kid who spikes 105's when he is sick!
  • I hope Alex feels better soon!

When I have a child I think I will bribe him/her to only want dad in the morning!  Sounds like more sleep potential for you ;-)

  • let's make that 3 shots and 3 molars (at once), as of just now. My kid does nothing simply. It's go big or go home.
  • Seriously Alex!  You big toughie!!  Trying to show mama what you can take.  I hope the fever goes down soon.  I know that Connor felt a bit warm after his shots  I ll watch it again.  We have his 3 month shots on Thursday.  How did he do the rest of the day?
  • He's been great, Beth, thanks for asking.  He's been eating relatively well so I was happy about that. He's been sleeping a lot and getting tired more easily than normal, and he does have a decent nugget on the thigh where he got the DTaP shot (the one that is causing the fever), but all of this is normal.

I expect our trip to the Aquarium tomorrow will still happen, thankfully, since we bought our tix in advance!

  • Poor little pumkpin, hope he is doing better now.

  • Okay, he's back to normal. He woke up singing in his crib this morning. He has a lovely falsetto. :P
  • Yea!  I morning seranade, nice!!
