Hosting a craft party, any ideas?

Having some friends from out of town stay with us on Halloween weekend.  H and I are throwing a Halloween party 'at night'.  During the day  I am planning to get some  ladies together for some fun, festive holiday crafting.  'They are up for this type of thing'  I'm hoping to provide all the necessities. Last year we carved pumpkins~ but I'd love for them to leave with something they will be able to admire again, later.

Oh, just grown-ups, no children. And when i say craft Party, I'm talking 6-8 people.

Anything Christmas, ornaments? or Halloween ideas. Thank you, any and all ideas welcome and appreciated!

All you need is love...

  • If the people like painting, you can find wood cutouts for Halloween or Christmas to paint/decorate.
  • The women in my family always do a craft after Thanksgiving dinner. We buy the beaded craft kits that you can get ornaments or christmas jewelry. I like them because they come with everything you need. They are inexpensive and come in sets of 3. I get ours at Oriental trading and they are pretty inexpensive.

  • Make wreaths, Christmas ornaments, take some pictures together and send them to them in your Christmas cards, maybe paint pumpkins instead of carving them so they will last longer - you could paint a "Happy Thanksgiving" or "Happy Fall" type pumpkin that could still be used throughout November, make candles, bake something, paint a plate or platter that can be used for Thanksgiving or even Christmas dinner...

I've got more issues than a magazine
  • THANK YOU! Great suggestions:)

  • Check out the Paper Source (www.paper-source.com) most of their stuff is paper crafts, but they have lots of seasonal items and ideas.
  • I recently went to a shower and we all made cards and it was a lot of fun. I think it would be cool to supply some paper, tools, and embellishments and let everyone make some holiday cards.

or, if it's a halloween-related craft... give everyone a blank mask, and the tools to embellish it as they wish.

  • I have a TON of crafts on my site, link in siggy. Some tips- keep snacks clean, nothing you have to constantly wipe off your hands, have all your materials prepped before hand. Have a basic material/tool kit for each person then extra embellishments set out separate. Let people know what they'll be making ahead of time so they can stash-bust if they have any good ideas. If I'm doing something like pumpkins I like to tear magazine examples out and tape them to the wall. It's fun to work with a 20X8 inspiration board right in front of you. Good luck, that sounds like fun!
  • Try the Martha Stewart website. I have a Christmas magazine of hers from last year and there are some great crafty ornament and baking ideas!
