Last night's baseball game

Did anyone watch the game last night? I am not a fan of either team, but enjoy watching the game. There was some pretty crappy calls with the umpires. I hope someone said something to him. It didn't make a difference in the end, but there just needs to be some consistency.

Re: Last night's baseball game

  • I watched some of it...I'm rooting for the Angels, so obviously wasn't thrilled with the outcome. :P

It seems like the umps are sucking it up right now...makes me wonder how the World Series will go...

  • I didn't see the whole game, but there have been A LOT of bad calls in the postseason already.  I'm a Phillies fan, but I think the Angels got a lot of tough breaks last night.  The absolute worst call I've ever seen was that missed double-play at third.  Granted, Cano did put his foot on third after he was tagged, but I just don't understand how the play was missed.  The bad calls may or may not have affected the outcome of the game, but it is important that the calls are being made correctly.
  • Like ND said, there have been a lot of bad calls this postseason.   Last night the homebase umpire admitted to our manager (Mike Scioscia) that he couldn't see around our catcher to call balls and strikes!  WTF is he doing behind the plate then?  All the games he umps in a season and he can't see around OUR catcher?

I think the bad calls affects the momentum for the Angels.  The umps and media have a huge bias towards the Yankees and unfortunatley my boys can't seem to rise above it... yet.

  • Pita, you're the only Angels fan I "know".  I was thinking of you last night during the small portion of the game I watched.  I really hope the Phils pull it out tonight, I am EXHAUSTED.  Maybe Manny will spend the WHOLE game in the showers, because (like Joe Torre says) he has so much "confidence" in his team.  Oookay.
  • There were hideou calls both ways...such as the leaving 3rd early call in the 5th against the Yankees when the umpire wasn't even looking at 3rd base.  He was later interviewed and said he "felt in his heart" that he left early.  Does he have instant replay in there somewhere?

  • Thanks ND!  Despite the bad calls, we didn't deserve to win.  The boys played horribly, can't hit the ball these days.

Don't worry about the Dodgers, the Phillies are going to be just fine, they're a much better  team.   The Dodger fans I work with have already conceded to losing the series.

Manny's a disgrace to the sport, Dodger fans are starting to realize it now.

  • Pita - Yeah, the Angels weren't really on their A game last night.  It's a good matchup between them and the Yanks IMO, but they were just off last night.  I really hope the Phils can pull it out tonight, I am so anxious for the game to start!

MLM - It's not even that the Yankees always get all the good calls or anything like that, IMO it's ridiculous that the umps are making this many mistakes.  I mean it's the playoffs, they can't be missing blatant calls or "feeling" things in their hearts.  Plus then you hear people argue, "well, they made it up!"  Since when do two incorrect calls make a right?  Just call the game and do it well and you won't need to make anything up.  I don't expect them to be perfect, but at this level they need to be proficient.

  • The same umpire made a blatantly bad call against the Yankees in the previous game.  I can't help but think that he was making it right.

What I can't believe is A-Rod in this series.  Goodbye Mr. May, hello Mr. October!

What do we think the odds are that he'll be booed in NY after this?

  • I have to say calls on both sides were awful.  They missed so many, let's hope they get better before the playoffs are over.
