WWYD?

I hardly ever posted on my local as it's dead most of the time, but I'm helping friends out by getting a team together to support a benifit 5K run in March (I won't go into the details here, they are on my FB page).  Some of the girls on my local are runners based on some of things they've said.  Would you post about the run on your local?  It's the first annual so we're trying to drum up as much support as possible, the cause is sad and that's why I'm having a tough time deciding what to do, I don't want to upset anyone.

Re: WWYD?

  • I don't think there is anything wrong with it.  It's not like you are promoting a business and profiting from it personally.  It's for a good cause and if people don't like it, the worst they'll do is ignore you or report your post and then it gets deleted.  I doubt anyone would do the latter though.

  • Yes, I would.

Every board here gets random posts from people we have no idea.  The local board is at least local,... so it's relevant. LOL

Also, you never know who might know the people the run is benefitting through a friend of a friend of a friend... and they'd be happy to join in, but wouldn't have a clue otherwise.

If you're hoping people that participate to raise funds, I'd hesitate a little more, but that's how I am.  I always hesitate to ask people for money - even if it's for a good cause.  (I try to stick to my one cause per year - then I'll beg, plead, etc, but the people I ask know I ask that one time a year and that's it (otherwise, people feel taken advantage of and get irritated that you're always asking them for money for a cause.))

  • First of all, yes I'd post it.  It's your local board - I'd make sure to mention that in your post - so it's relevant.  It's not the same as showing up on ML and posting it there.  :)

Do you know if there are a lot of local races?  If there isn't, that's all the more reason to post on your local, especially if there are girls there who run.

Let me know what you guys need help with - I've been to too many races that have gone horribly wrong and can tell you ALL about them.  :)

Damn you Nest for screwing up my siggy!

    Exactly this.

    Ditto.

  • OK, I'll post it.  I think I'll wait and post it a couple of months before the event, it's not until March.

Val, thanks for your offer.  They are working with our local parks and rec department and from what I hear they have been a huge help.  They only started this process in September and things have come so far already, I'm so proud of them for what they are doing, they are a wonderful family.
