It's a media center device - it's basically an underpowered computer made just for watching your movies and TV shows and listening to music.
We considered getting one but instead opted for a Mac Mini - more storage, better processor, a DVD drive so we can rip all our movies (we have it hooked up to a 2 TB external hard drive), and since it's a regular computer, we don't have to hack it to use services like Hulu Desktop or Boxee (we got rid of cable and watch all our TV online).
