I just wanted to let you know that DH and I are planning a trip to Thailand and Singapore in the spring and we will be using your information you send after your honeymoon. We're looking into flights and whatnot already. We have both SIL and a friend in Singapore, so our time will not be exclusive to Thailand, but with your notes I think we will definitely hit the highlights and make the most of it. I told DH I would ask...how was the flight? Honestly! I can imagine it is horrid...that's the only part I dread!
Re: **Twink**
OMG!! I am so excited for you!
The flight was pretty brutal coming off the "high" of getting married but totally worth it. Actually, the flight from ORD to our stop in Seoul was a breeze because the seats are seriously so big and you have your own TV and everything. The stewardes on my flight (Korean Air) were just bitches and stingy with the alcohol, but I always get pretty toasty on transcontinental flights so it's flies by (har har). Honestly, the service was the worst part, so hopefully you're flying something other than Korean Air!
The worst part was the local flights, in between your hub and the actual location you're flying to in Thailand. The planes are smaller and they were always packed full. But again, totally worth it.
I am so so happy for you, I can't WAIT to go back to Thailand!
I'm not Twink, but we are also going to Asia (end of December-early January) to visit family and in my opinion the flights are awful. There's just no way around it except to shell out for upgrades, higher class tickets. My IL's live in Indonesia so we are headed to Bali and Java (where they live) but will also be in Singapore briefly.
It is amazing and I know you will love it, but last time we went I thought I would die by the end of the 40+ hour travel stretch. The Kuala Lampur airport has this awesome little microhotel in the terminal so last time we went we did stay there and sleep/shower over a 10 hour layover- made all the difference!
(It is important to note that when we go we usually pay with miles and hobble together odd itineraries, so it is definitelly NOT the most direct routes. Hopefully you can get a great set of flights!)
I was just in Thailand for our honeymoon (and Indonesia and Japan). Its amazing and you are going to have a fantastic time!
I definitely agree with sarajoy on the plane flights. If there is anyway to get upgrades or use miles, that's definitely the way to go to make it all bearable! It helps to if you can sleep - thats how I cope. DH swears by his noise cancelling headphones on any long flights.
DH and I went to Thailand in '05 for 17 days: Chang Mai, Bangkok, and Phuket with days trips around each city.
My advice re: flight is not to fly an american owned airline. American staff tends to be nazis about sitting in your seats, etc. If you fly another airline, they'll let you get up and walk around much more.
