do you think its an allergy? or just a cold?

should I stop peas, if so, for how long?

Re: solids and allergy ?, help!

  • Hmmmm......I've never had one of my kiddos have a reaction to something they have eaten, so I don't really know from experience!

However, with introducing foods to babies our pediatrician advised me to watch for things like hives or swelling, chronic eczema, or trouble breathing and also gastrointestinal symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea.

Also, eight foods are responsible for 90 percent of food allergies: eggs, milk, peanuts, wheat, soy, tree nuts (like walnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews), and fish (like tuna, salmon, and cod), and shellfish (like lobster, shrimp, and crab).

My gut says that what Owen is experiencing are cold symptoms or maybe even teething????  Is he fussy?

I'm sure that somebody who knows more would be more helpful, but either way it might be best to have the pediatrician take a peek at him tomorrow.  That's what I always do when in doubt about something!

Let me know how you (and Owen, mostly) make out, ok?

  • I'm pretty sure the kid's got a cold . . .
  • I have heard of a mild fever as a reaction, but I think it is very, very rare.  Sounds more like a cold or teething to me.  Owen has had a very runny nose & a low grade fever for several days.

Laura did a great job of covering the "top 8" foods & symptoms.  Owen gets rashes, incredibly fussy, nasty diapers, sometimes a runny nose, eczema, sometimes vomitting.

     Hope he feels better soon!

  • thanks to those who provided helpful information!  Owen was much better today.  We did not take him to the pedi though.

I knew to look for a reaction when trying new foods, but wasn't too sure what to look for, I read somewhere a runny nose was possible, which made sense given friends I know who are allergic to animals and stuff.  I also saw peas on a list of more allergic foods on the wholesomebabyfoods website.

I guess I was a bit nervous, but my baby just has a little cold!  I will hold off on peas for a while and just try familiar foods for the next few days.

    Thanks ladies

    Chrissy and Owen!
