She is sleeping on her tummy...HELP
Kaelyn will no longer sleep on her back. She is either sleeping on her side, or on her tummy.....I am a little freaked out about finding her asleep on her tummy. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do? Is this when SIDS is even more of a risk, when they can roll onto their belly?
Re: She is sleeping on her tummy...HELP
Also Ill just past this along. Nina Cullen who runs Nini Bambini (our moms group) stays this all the time. The SIDS test was done in Europe where they use feather beds mainly for childrens bed. There is a huge difference between putting the baby on a big fluffy feather bed and a firm mattress. The study was to valuable that they stuck with those numbers and never conducted one in the US where we obviously mainly do not use feather beds. Just thought that I would share.
Still be careful and watch out of course but as long as you do not have big fluffy blankets or items in the crib you should be fine.
Like Becky said, if she put herself that way there really isn't anything you can do. She may not be able to put herself back onto her back (Owen would roll onto his stomach & wake-up freaking out b/c he couldn't get back, even though he knew how). And, you have to asume that if she rolled herself over her head control is good enough to move if she were unable to breath, vomit etc. It is hard not to worry, but there isn't much you can do. I stopped swaddling as soon as he started rolling while swaddled. I always put him down on his back & he usually rolled to his belly b/f I was even out of the room.
GL!
As far as I know it is young to be rolling from back to belly - Austin isn't even close to being there yet - that's great though - Go Kaeyln!
