Wedding Cake Recs - Charleston Area?

Ladies,

My husband and I are getting ready to celebrate our first anniversary.  Since getting married, we have relocated to the Charleston area.  The bakery where we got our original wedding cake in Arlington, VA gave us a free anniversary cake as part of our package.  Since we are no longer living there, we will not be able to take advantage of that.  All of that being said, I'd like to order a very small cake locally to enjoy on our first wedding anniversary.

Does anyone have any recommendations on where to get a tasty, simple, and relatively inexpensive cake?

Thanks!

Re: Wedding Cake Recs - Charleston Area?

  • Don't think that they are too wedding cake-ish, but have you ever been to Saffron (on East Bay)?  they have amazing cakes.

You could also try Whole Foods, they have awesome cakes as well!

I didn't get married here, so I can only suggest what I know of now.

  • If you have your heart set on getting an entire cake, I would check out The Cake Stand on James Island if you don't want to go the grocery store route.  I remember them having mini cakes.  You could even get one of those giant cupcakes at Cupcake.  Kaminski's has amazing desserts, but I am not sure it would be reasonably priced to get a whole cake from there.

I bet Publix or Whole Foods (as PP mentioned) would have something tasty, simple and realitvely inexpensive.

If you are just looking for a slice of cake or awesome desserts in general, I have a whole bunch of places I could recommend.  Especially if you want an ice cream cake which happens to be my favorite.

  • Thank you both for the advice!  I'll check these places out. I did think about getting a giant cupcake.  That could be fun.

     I really appreciate it!

  • Publix did our wedding cake and was really great... For a small cake you are probablyt looking at a $15-20 dollar range.
  • The Peninsula Grill at the Planter's Inn did all of the food (and cakes) for our wedding. The cakes were absolutely outstanding. I had a guest call them two weeks after the wedding for the recipe because he couldn't stop thinking about it. They are rather famous for their coconut cake, it's been featured on numerous television shows, including Martha Stewart. That would be my rec on how to spend an anniversary--dinner at the Peninsula Grill followed by that delicious cake!?
  • the ashley bakery has fabulous cakes, as does newton farms {located on johns island} their pastry cheft used to work for better homes and gardens magazine and all of her cakes rock!!
  • Michelle at Piggly Wiggly in Seaside Farms in Mount Pleasant is terrific!  She did our wedding and grooms cake- layers of brownies with cheesecake filling, topped with shaved chocolate and it was delicious!  Our wedding cake was also fantastic- our favorite layer was hazelnut with chocolate hazelnut filling.

And she is cheaper than any other vendor that I checked in Charleston.
