Ugly Sweater Christmas Party?

I am having an Ugly Sweater Christmas party this year and wanted to know if any of you have ever been to one/had one?  I am sending out invites and asking the guests to wear ugly Christmas Sweaters.  The ugliest one gets the prize!

Couples will be invited and no children.  Do you all have any ideas for food/activities that will be good?  TIA!

Re: Ugly Sweater Christmas Party?

  • We are going to have one this year with just us and 2 or 3 other couples. In fact, I just saw an ad on here for a drink I want to serve, caramel apple martinis.  We are going to either do steaks or make your own homemade pizzas. I am leaning towards the pizzas. I will do the pre-made crusts with different cheeses and toppings, then probably a salad and breadsticks and some kind of awesome dessert.  The prize will probably be a bottle of wine or something like that. If you invited lots of people, you could have a fashion show. We will probably end up having a Wii tournament and karaoke.

  • That's great!  Thanks for the ideas!
  • I have noticed that this seems to be a new thing w/ Christmas parties.  Do people really still have the ugly sweaters lying around to wear to the parties? I like to think that all of my "ugly" sweaters have gone to Goodwill by now.

This came up a little while ago.  Apparently everyone goes to Goodwill and buys them, then makes them even worse with puffy paint or other add-ons.

  • Oh and I just decided to do the chocolate fountain too, just to add in a little extra cheeziness!
  • Sounds super fun.  You could make the appetizers sort of retro and kitsch it up by serving throwback stuff like Swedish meatballs, fondue (popular in the 60s and always a tasty hit right now) a cheeseball, a jello-mold salad.
  • Ohhh, I see, everyone goes back and purchases the sweaters their parents donated :)  I guess it's a good way for Goodwill to get that sweater merchandise out the door.
  • My roommate used to have one every year.  One drink suggestion at christmas that looks festive is cosmo's in martini glasses with green rimming sugar.  I did those one year for a bachelorette party at christmas and they were a big hit.  Or mulled wine or cider are always good around the holidays too!
  • I would love to have one of these parties!

Alas, DD's first birthday will be in December though, and I think our calendar is pretty full otherwise. Perhaps next year :)
