Cheese and Wine party?

Hello all!

My Fi and I recently went to a Cheese and Wine tasting and have decided to host one at our house. The problem: our house is the size of a shoe box. Well not really but it's laid out way too goofy.

Any suggestions on how to host semi-large (20 people) parties in a small space?

Re: Cheese and Wine party?

  • Maybe you could set up in each room. Put a wine and some goodies in each room, maybe even outside if you have a porch or deck and weather permits.  If you have a deck, you could tent it and hang lanterns and lights and have tables out there.
  • That's a tough one, especially if your other rooms are just as small or not really inviting to have people in them for that kind of thing. What's the situation like for seating areas in the living room/dining room? Do you have a bar-like counter space that opens up from the kitchen into the living room?
  • How small?  Do you have an outdoor space?  Basement?  Garage?  How many rooms?
  • We have a 3 bedroom bungalow, so we have two rooms (approx 10 x 10) downstairs (which are the bedroom and office) and then the upstairs is 10 x 20-ish and that is my sister's room. Then the kitchen is 9 x 7 and the living room is 14 x 15 (maybe a little more). We are planning on having it the last weekend of Nov so outside would not be good (we live in  Michigan) and our basement is very dark and damp, however, if someone has any good decorating/lighting options it could work out well.

I like having the idea of wines/foods in different rooms. I'm not opposed to rearranging things (read: stuffing everything into one room) for a night.

  • The basement might accommodate the size of group you are having over better. My only concern about having it in different rooms, is that people will want to socialize, and splitting it up into diff. rooms could break up the group atmosphere a bit. It's hard to know though without actually seeing your place. Lighting for a basement..hmm..you could bring lights you already have downstairs, or buy some cheap lamps from Walmart and then return them after the party ;) Candles are always fun too.
