Are there still people who blieve this?

Are tere actually some people out there who follow baseball and think there AREN'T players on their favorite team taking some form of steroids?  A response to me below about how half the Yankess are on them just got me thinking about that.

They are on every team out there.  Some people admit to it, some lie even after they get caught (HELLO Rocket) and some act completely disgusted about their teammates only to get caught later. I can tell you which Yankees I have thought were on them for years.  I am not blind to it.  You don't get better at 40 as a pitcher, and you don't hit 5 home runs one year and 50 the next.

Re: Are there still people who blieve this?

  • Yeah, I think it's really sad that it's so expected in the sport.  I find it frustrating that it's allegedly such a big deal that congress has to get involved, yet MLB is too chickenshit to just lay down the law and stop it.  Either you allow it or stop it, but this tip-toeing around to avoid a strike is getting us nowhere and it's annoying.
  • I think it is sad that people do not realize how rampant it is in ALL sports, just more publicized in MLB. I do not think it is the government's place to get into sports (or private industry at all). I think the general public needs to start putting THEIR collective foot down and boycott. I think that we, as the ticket holders and fans, need to demand that rule and law breakers are not allowed to play professional sports. PERIOD.
  • I believe there are a ton of players that are out there using. Honestly, I don't really care.  It wouldn't matter as much if they could actually hide it, but like PP said, 5 homeruns one year 50+ the next? You don't improve that much once you have been playing for a few years.

I don;t think the government has a right to get involved. If it mattered to them that much, they need to fight the actual fight and get rid of the steroids altogether.

  • Well, I guess I'm naive then. I don't think every single player is on steroids, which if I'm reading right, is what you said in your post.

  • That's not what I said.  I said they are on every team, but not every player.
  • I just think it's sad.  What happened to people played sports because they actually worked hard and were talented at it?  Not who got all hopped up on steroids and/or took other potentially dangerous meds to make them better.

  • I just wanted to clarify, I don't think congress should be involved at all.  But steroids are obviously a HUGE problem and it needs to be resolved by MLB officials, but that won't happen until the american public/fans put their collective foot down.
  • Agreed. Congress needs to stay out of it, and MLB needs to stop being babies and put their foot down. It makes me sad, too, that it's so expected in the MLB that players take steroids.

However, I'm not naive enough to think that MLB is the only league that has steroids issues. They're just the ones who aren't dealing with it as well as the others, I think.

  • I'm not a big baseball fan, but I was watching PTI the other day and I think it was Wilbon who made a hilarious comment about the spitting on the ball [I think it was Rivera?  not sure - like I said, not a big baseball fan], about how "hey it's baseball, it's expected you are cheating in some way."  Kind of sad that it's pretty true.
