Dear Obese Man at Walgreens (vent)

(and FYI I'm uber PMSING ...I hope) How exactly do you figure that a woman wearing an Ann Taylor top, preppy jeans, Tiffany & Co jewelry, and a carrying a $200 bag while choosing between brands of sunscreen WORKS at Walgreens. Did you see a smock? Then no no I cannot help you find your selection. If your 600 lbs (and I'm NOT exagerating) are too lazy to waddle to an associate then don't give ME a dirty look when I tell you I obviously do not.

Re: Dear Obese Man at Walgreens (vent)

  • I can understand your frustration, but people make mistakes, right?
  • He was really rude about it and if you saw the people who worked at that Walgreens you would understand why I was insulted to be lumped together with people missing teeth.
  • To some people your "upscale" ensemble may mean nothing more than that you are flashy! Thus not implying at all that you are so beneath working at Walgreens. But the PMSing I get. I am right there with you, sister.
  • I can understand that. I guess I just took offense to it because I work retail right now. I can also understand rude people. So, my first reaction to your post was negative only because I must have read into it too much.
  • It was more intended to mean what employee carries a purse? I loathe Walgreens though I'm sorry I detest it. Ever since I bought a pregnancy test there that had both sticks used and they treated me like I did it. It was disgusting. I only stopped there out of a dire need and to make matters worse the Physicians Formula concealer from their brand new line was spoiled. It was rock hard and solid, I tried to dab some on and it was the consistency of glue and it darn near took my skin off with it, so now I got to go back tomorrow to exchange it. I'd swear off that store if it wasn't the fact that its near impossible to find Physicians Formula curling mascara.
  • I've been asked a million times in stores where something is...and I usually help the person out anyways ;)  Especially Target!

    LOL me too!!

  • I so don't. I worked retail in high school and college and did tech support when I worked at one of my old jobs. I've found that customers generally fail and I'll be darned if I help someone rude out if I'm not getting paid to.
  • Well yeah I can understand if the person is rude you not wanting to be friendly...lol

I had my share of rude people when I worked in TJMaxx it happens...

I wasn't upscale. I was wearing jeans and a shirt but I was preppy as I usually am. I can understand once when my hubby was wearing a blue polo and khakis when he accidently went to best buy during lunch being mistaken for an employee, but its not like I was wearing a smock.?

  • I think my main thing is that I hate talking to strangers so when people come up to me and act rude it really throws me off.
  • I can feel your frustration missy! I have zero tolerance for rude people and for people who get mad when you don't work at the store - and you're just a customer like them. Hope your night gets better....
  • I've actually seen a lot of "preppie dressed" people working at Walgreens before.
  • I dunno, I always seem to have the chain smoking older ladies that growl more then talk. I'm sorry I just hate Walgreens, what with the used PG test, the times they've farked up?prescriptions, the times my stuff that was bought was spoiled and now they're always getting robbed, even the one in Heathrow. I'm less then thrilled one is going in my area. It is not going to help property values, the only way it could be worse is if they add a Walmart. To me being accused of working there is like an uber insult b/c of how much I hate Walgreens. Again I only had to go there out of necessity, I usually only do Target and Publix but Publix was out of contact solution so I was stuck with Walgreens.

Wow, which location were you in? Not that I like Walgreens, but I've never noticed any teeth missing from anyone working there.

  • This particular one was Lake Mary the one that had all the toothless people was in Oviedo. I tend to generalize.
  • As soon as I read the title to this post I knew it was going to be a good one.
  • Well there certainly is a lot of judging going on in this post.  Wow.

I was in Publix a couple weeks ago and these two older men (I'm assuming they were a couple) asked me if I knew where the pie filling was.  It was pretty obvious that I didn't work there since I was pushing a cart full of groceries.  At first I got snippy with them and gave them a dirty look and just said "I have no idea".  As I said that, I realized that they knew I didn't work there, but who knows, maybe I knew where the pie filling was.  So I changed my attitude real quick and offered a suggestion.  I don't really like talking to strangers either, but the older I get the more tolerant I get of stuff like that.  Sometimes people just generally need help.

My dad is obese and has so much arthritis in his body that he can barely walk.  He cannot work out or do any type of exercise to lose weight and I feel horrible for him.  You never know a person's situation.  Maybe that man was in pain and didn't feel like walking around the whole store looking for something and was hoping you might be able to help him.

I totally get your point here and I used to be the same way.  I've just decided in recent years that most people are not that bad and you can't just judge a book by it's cover.

  • Geek, you mean you are not happy about the Walgreens going up around the corner from us?!  I call it the "Chase Groves" Walgreens.  I am not a fan of Chase Groves AT ALL, but I hope the Walgreens ends up being a nice one.

If you dont like Walgreens though, just get all your products at another place.  Physicians Formula is sold at a lot of places...so you can always get it somewhere else.  I know Ulta has it for a fact.

The whole used preggo test thing should have been reported to the Health Department by you because that is a definitely a violation.  Seriously.

I have been misjudged as a worker many many places before.  I just politely say "oh I dont work here" and go about my shopping.  Maybe he didnt see your purse?  Some of the beauty techs in Walgreens dont even wear the smocks so he could have thought you were a worker.

Hope you have a good vacation.  You are certainly going to a purtttty place!  Just stay away from a Walgreens while you are there!  heheStick out tongue

  • Maybe he just thought you looked smart and you might know where it could be.
  • I know I'm not the only one thinking that somewhere out there, there's a "Dear Bitchy Woman at Walgreens..." letter being posted. :)

Ooh...good point.  That letter might make it into the Orlando Sentinel's "Ticked Off" column ;)

Haha! I haven't read those in forever. They were always so funny to read. :)

I can't read them at work anymore...they label it as "entertainment" and they blocked it :(

  • LOL Whatley yeah I was at Ulta the day before but they were totally out of my shade. Yeah I mean the Chase Groves one. I'm so scared that the land they cleared out is going to be a Walmart or something.  If it is, I know we'll never sell the house b/c I have never known a Walmart to not drag property values down. Whatley get this, they told me at the time that the used pregnancy test thing happens ALL THE TIME. People use them in the store and then glue them back together. I guess sometimes its employees doing that....maybe that is why I judge lol. Hey, did you know that empty track of land across from us was purchased by the School Board?
  • What?  So what does that mean, another school being put up across from us?!  We are talking about the land where they always burn stuff right?

When you say the land they cleared out, are you talking about over on the street where the Walgreens is also going?  If they are gonna cut the trees down, which I am very against, then put me a Whole Foods Market or Fresh Market there so I dont have to go to kingdomcome to find certain items.

  • Yeah where they always burn stuff, it has signs that say property of Seminole County Schools. Ooooh I so wish it would be a Trader Joe's but you know that will never happen.
