Reinstalled iTunes, now how do I get my iPod library into iTunes?

I had to remove iTunes, which was in and of itself a giant PITA (and a big thanks to you ladies for helping me do that a few weeks ago!), but now that it's been reinstalled, I want to make sure that all of the songs I have in my iPod are kept in my iTunes...when I go to sync it, I get the warning that it will replace my iPod with my current library, which is only the songs I've purchased.  How can I sync the iPod without losing all those countless hours of pulling music from my CDs onto this computer the first time around???

Re: Reinstalled iTunes, now how do I get my iPod library into iTunes?

  • Try this:

In iTunes, go to Edit > Preferences

Under the Devices tab, uncheck "Prevent  iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically"

  • is all your music still on your computer, just not in itunes? If it is, go ahead and put it back into itunes (I think you can have it search for music on your computer maybe? I haven't used itunes in a while).

If it's not on your computer anymore but still on your ipod, you can download a program that will take the songs off your ipod and put them back on your computer. When I had to do it the program was called ipodRip, but you might want to google and make sure that's still a legit program. The program will guide you through how to get the songs off.

  • When you open itunes with your ipod attached, go to the home tab where you can see a picture of your ipod with it's name etc.  At the bottom click manually sync.  If you want to add songs, highlight them in your library and drag them over.  That way you can delete songs off you computer without taking them off your ipod.
