Orlando Restaurant

I'm arriving into Orlando at 8pm on a Tuesday night, and I'll need to get a taxi from MCO to my hotel in Buena Vista.

I'd like to stop somewhere either near the hotel, or the airport, or in between to get something not terrible to eat. I get to expense it but don't want to go crazy. I'll be on my own. I won't have checked luggage.

I love to try new beer. I love trying new ethnic food (korean, japanese, thai, vietnamese) but have a soft spot for a good burger. I don't mind sitting at a bar as long as the food is worth it.

Any suggestions? TIA!

Re: Orlando Restaurant

  • Hmm...this is a surprisingly tough question! I can think of a lot of places that match your tastes but they're mostly all east or north of downtown Orlando (nowhere near where you'll be).

First, I'd probably just avoid the airport area. It's pretty much all big, casual chains like Chili's and stuff.

If you're going to be staying in Lake Buena Vista, I'd probably start checking out the restaurants on Disney property. There are a lot of good options at the Disney resorts and at Downtown Disney and Disney's Boardwalk.

One Disney restaurant that comes to mind for you is Boma, the buffet at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I'm not normally a buffet fan, but the food there is really high quality and it's a wide variety of African and Middle Eastern food, so there's a lot of fun stuff to check out. It's also not crazy expensive and the hotel is pretty to look at.

A little bit spendier but really, really amazing is Todd English's bluezoo at the Swan and Dolphin Resort. It's one spot I often recommend for special occasions because the food is awesome.

If you go to Downtown Disney, Raglan Road, Wolfgang Puck's and House of Blues are some of the better dining options. Puck's has sushi and a short but decent beer list (i.e. Tucher and La Fin du Monde), so you might like that.

Boardwalk has a brew pub. Last time I was there it wasn't anything wildly unique or anything, but brew pubs can be fun sometimes if you're a beer geek like my husband and I. Boardwalk also has Iron Chef Cat Cora's new restaurant, Kouzzina. I've had a lot of trouble getting a reservation but they do have a bar you can eat at, and I've heard the lamb burger is out of this world.

If you do venture elsewhere in town while you're here, the Vietnamese and Korean restaurants are mostly clustered around Highway 50 (Colonial Drive) just east of downtown Orlando. The best beer bar in town, Redlight, Redlight, is just a little east from there. If you venture up to Winter Park, north of downtown, you would probably love The Ravenous Pig, a gastropub with a great beer list and amazing food. I also like to recommend Le Coq au Vin, a country French restaurant south of downtown, to people visting from out of down.

Hope this helps! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you.

  • I agree this is a very difficult question! I totally forgot about the brewery at the Boardwalk! I think that would be a good option for you. I've never had there burgers but I had the meatloaf and it was great!
  • I'd venture over to Downtown Disney so that you can have your pick of restaurants and some shopping options too.

Wolfgang Puck, House of Blues, Bongos Cuban Cafe ... plus many more options

My fave Japanese restaurant is Amura and its over off of Sand Lake - could be close (or not) depending on where in Lake Buena Vista your hotel is located.

  • My favorite Disney restaurant is Ohana at the Polynesian.

An easy, inexpensive place is The  Millers Ale House. There is one by the airport and just outside Downtown Disney on 535. They have a good bar to sit and eat at, a big menu and great food.
