What's your comfort food??

I will tell you that my FB status inspired this post.

I've had a cold and have been suffering with bad allergies for about a week now and all I wanted was a little comfort food.

I made one of my favorite dinners,Creamed Hot Dogs,  It's something that we made while growing up, it actually was my great grandmothers recipe.

It's something that I love and really wanted, but DH totally hates it.

So does anyone have some sort of comfort food, that you love that DH hates?  Or vice versa?

Re: What's your comfort food??

  • WHAT are creamed hot dogs!?  How do I make them? haha sounds good!

Mine is definitely home made tollhouse chocolate chip cookies, I can still remember making them with my mom and grandma from about age 3 years old on!  I LOVE the dough and the cookies!

A non-dessert food would have to be shepherd's pie or baked mac and cheese!

  • ohhhhh man i can name a billion lol.

agreed with pp that cookie dough is waaaaayyyy up there!  i made them this weekend :)

mac & cheese is also a fav...but its gotta be my mom's recipe made with velveeta of all things!   and i know its cliche, but homemade chicken soup always does it, too!

BUT, my all-time, be all end all fav...mashed potatoes.  can't get enough!

  • It's a real simple recipe, it's my great grandmothers, so it's a depression recipe when they didn't have much meat and made the best with what they had.

This is how I made tonights dinner.

I used 1/2lb of Hot Dogs (sliced up), Onions, Garlic, Flour, Milk, Salt and Pepper

Brown the hot dogs, onions and garlic, add a little flour and a little olive oil to make a rue, add milk to hot dogs to make a quick cream gravy. Stir and add litttle more flour to thicken, add salt and pepper to taste.

It's a simple 10 minute dinner.  And to me it's comfort food :)

  • I am going to try that!

  • That creamed hot dog recipe sounds yummy!  My belly is also growling right now.

I love mac 'n cheese with cut up hotdogs in it, hot chocolate with marshmellows and whipped cream, and molten lava cake as my comfort foods.  Oh, or a good old homemade lasagna (with sausage, not hamburger meat).

DH likes all of the above, but is less into sweets than I am.  He likes these weird fruit things (they are the size of cherries but are green and not shiny), I believe they are most common in Puerto Rico, but his mom found him some the other day and brought them to him.  I tried one, but BLECH!
