Hair salons

Where do you get your hair styled in the Banker's Hill/Hillcrest area?

Re: Hair salons

  • I live in Mission Hills and I go to Luxe Hair Studio in North Park.  My hairdressers name is Charlotte but Nicole is awesome as well.

  • Thanks I appreciate that!
  • I live in Hillcrest and can't find a good salon, either.  I went to Jet Rhys and hated it.  I actually still get my hair done in NYC, when I fly back to visit family because the 4 salons I tried in SD were horrific.

Which stylist did you go to?  I've only been to Josie (from another Nestie's recommendation) and love her.  Two of my friends and my mom have since started going to her.

I used Aubrey.  She came highly recommended for color treatments, but I wouldn't use her again.

That sucks.  If you haven't found a good colorist, Trisha at Jet Rhys is pretty good.  She's a bit pricey so I only went to her once, but she did a pretty good job.

  • I tried Jet Rhys and dk in Hillcrest.  The Electric Chair in OB and one in Kearny Mesa but I cannot remember the name of that one.  That was the very first one I tried when I moved here.

  • Not Banker's Hill or Hillcrest but I see Lindsay at Details Salon in Ocean Beach and I love her.

I also used to go to Dearinger's Downtown and I loved them too.  I stopped going because I had issues with the owner and could no longer give him my money.  But the stylists were great!

I agree the Electric Chair is not a place I would go.  I went there a few times many years ago when I lived in O.B. and would not go back.  Although, your going to have different experience with different stylists.

  • I don't know if I've mentioned it recently, but I go to Atelier Aucoin in downtown La Jolla.  I've been going there since college and I love my stylist, Natella.  I know it's hard to find a good stylist and salon, so I'm willing to drive a little bit.  From Hillcrest, it's usually only about 20 minutes to the salon when there's no traffic.  They do have their own parking lot, which is a little tricky to find the first time.
  • I'll defintely keep them in mind!  We just moved to Hillcrest from the La Jolla area, so I should have tried it while we lived there!

I don't mind driving for a good one, given that when I lived in Jersey I would drive into NYC to get my hair done.  Even though it was only 9 miles away, it always took around 2 hours to get into the city, given traffic and finding parking.

  • We were just back there week before last and even taking public transportation, it was upwards of an hour to get to where we wanted to be in the city sometimes.  It's easiest if you're just going somewhere near the PATH, but it can still take forever with the timing of trains.
