I haven't been in a million years and I'm going all day Friday. Can you do the whole place in one day? Anything in particular to look for? Any tips? Good lunch spots? TIA!

You can definitely do it in one day! The new thing there is Elephant Odyssey. It is pretty cool. You get to see state-of-the-art elephant equipment. Also, don't miss the pandas -- they are worth the wait.
As for lunch, I think everything in the zoo is about the same, so no tips from me about that.

Albert's restaurant, located in the park in the Treehouse complex, is really quite good. It's a sit down place that serves beer and wine and it's tucked away from all the crazy of the zoo. We often eat there as it's a nice break in the day.
At the Elephant Odessey, also check out the jaguar - that sucker is SO COOL!
