Newbie--Just Sayin Hey!

Hey all!

DH and I are new to SA, got here less than a month ago.  We're originally from Pennsylvania and most recently lived in Pittsburgh.  Guess what brought us to SA!  (The military, you say?  DING DING DING!  How'd you guess?)  :o)  DH is a doctor in the USAF.  He just started his residency.  I'm currently an out of work researcher, which is fine since my life is super busy right now with our new house, the puppy we just adopted from the Bexar County Humane Society, and our over-attached, slightly insane parrot.

I really like Texas so far, especially since I hated Pittsburgh with a passion.  I'm still getting used to being so far from home, though.  Anywho, I just wanted to introduce myself and see who else is around here!

  • Welcome!  You should join us for Bunco as Lauren mentioned!
  • Thanks for the welcome!

Our puppy is great, but if she would learn that the bird is not a squeak toy, we'd really be in business!   I was very happy with our experience with the Humane Society, too.  Everyone there was really nice, and I love all the little extras you get for the adoption fee.  This was the first dog I ever rescued, but now I seriously doubt that I'll ever go back to a breeder again.  And I think it's great the the city is trying to go no-kill, although I hear that they once (currently?) had the distinction of killing more shelter animals than any other US city.  Yikes!

I'd never heard of Bunco until today.  I had to google it!  It's a dice game, right?  I'm actually busy on the 17th, but maybe I can catch up with you guys next month.  Thanks for the invite!

Here's a pic of our little pup: http://tinyurl.com/6dkyqx

And here's our crazy cockatoo:  http://tinyurl.com/6hgkfo

  • Both our dogs are from the Humane Society as well. I have to stay away from it now or else I'd have way too many dogs at home! I confess to checking out the Animal Defense League website occassionally as well as Pet Finder!

Bunco is a lot of fun. I think we do it on the 3rd Thursday of every month and a different person hosts each time.

  • Hi and welcome!!!  There are a few of us whose DH's are in residency or fellowship - so we totally understand when you say that you feel like you never see your DH!  :)

What side of town did you move to?
