Visiting in January, can anyone help with recommendations?
Hi ladies! My hubbs and I will be visiting Chicago in January for a little weekend get away. We're looking at hotels and leaning towards Hotel Blake which seems to be in the downtown area. If you have the time, we'd love to hear recommendations about whether this area/hotel is good for 2 20-somethings who like fun art museums, the outdoors and great restaurants. Thanks in advance!
Re: Visiting in January, can anyone help with recommendations?
I just googled the location of that hotel. It is pretty far south of where all the shopping is. It is closer to some museums. Most of the restaurants are a bit north of there as well.
As far as farmer's markets go-there is an indoor one in lincoln park during the winter. There aren't any out door ones. As far as local shopping goes, I'd check out bucktown/wicker park neighborhoods, as well as the southport area.
HTH!
Hotel Blake is in the South Loop, where I live! It's a great, little neighborhood with lots of food. It is, though, far from the "Shopping" if you're thinking of shopping on Michigan Ave (the Mag Mile).
Near your hotel will be shopping on State Street, which I think is better. There's seven story Macy's--what more could anybody need!? Also, you'll be really close to every line on the CTA, which can get you anywhere in the City.
I also recommend Wicker Park for shopping, as well as Lincoln Park--lots of boutiques in those areas.
HTH---Happy Planning, it's a great city!
