F/U -- Vinca/Periwinkle

A good amount of people in my area use what I thought was vinca as ground cover and borders, but I know there is no pulling or planting seeds going on, so I assumed it was a perennial. The post below says vinca is an annual. What plant might I be thinking of that looks like vinca but is a perennial?

Re: F/U -- Vinca/Periwinkle

  • There is a perinnel vinca in our area: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/1144/  (we are in zone 6b/7a...so it jjuuuuuuust survives our winter).

But, it's very invasive.  I would not plant it.

eta: vinca minor is also an invasive groundcover.  It's hardy to zone 4.

my vinca comes back every.single.year.  Unfortunately.

  • Thanks, Kastle.

Maybe we could have a gardening GTG in the coming months! (And then take pictures of our gardens to make it a photo GTG, too Wink) I'd love to pick your brain about doing raised beds, what to grow my first year, etc. Your blog has been helpful!

I adore vinca and would be fine with it taking up our whole front yard! Okay, maybe not that far, but I do love it.

This is a great idea.  I definitely would do something things differently if I was starting all over again (mostly design related though).  I was thinking maybe doing a Nestie seed swap too but not sure anyone would come?!?  Will post on DC board...

Re: Vinca.  Just make sure you keep it trimmed from your neighbor's yard & all will be OK.
