Advent Calendar

I got this calendar to put on my wall for my granddaughter:

 A couple questions:

1)  What should I put in the pockets to count the days of Christmas?  Candy?  Little toys?

2)  Is the idea of the pockets to just keep adding a trinket each day until Christmas and then share all the treats on Christmas Day OR do I fill all the pockets in advance and then pull one out per day?

Re: Advent Calendar

  • We always had the chocolate filled advent calendars as I was growing up.  Each day we opened a door and took out the piece of chocolate and ate it that day.

  • Yes, put candy or small toys in the pockets. If you really feel froggy, maybe put a gift certificate all rolled up in one?

And you fill the pockets in advance and then pull one out each day.

  • Thank you very much, ladies. : )

  • I got something like that for my neices and nephews. I also got them a small fake Christmas tree and tiny ornaments, that way each day they took out an ornament and put it on the tree. They still do it every year and they love it.
  • My grandmother did one of these ages ago.  Some of the little gifts she bought were too big for the boxes so she made up little certificates to put in the boxes that matched a bigger box that was nearby.  Like one of the items was a cool pen.  It wouldn't fit in the box of course so she put a little certificate in to correspond with the wrapped pen.  You can just keep the bigger/odd shaped gifts in a cute bag nearby or something.  Not sure I'm making sense but if it helps, of all the advent calendars my grandmother did, I remember that one the most.  :o)

  • We always had these as kids and I miss it. I told DH I wanted one this year. We usually had chocolates in ours. One year we had small ournaments. The point of it is just to be a countdown to Christmas.
