He's gone.
My grandfather died at 11:00 last night. I didn?t find out until about 8:00 this morning. His daughter, 2 granddaughters, sister, and my grandmother were all there with him, and he went peacefully. After seeing him yesterday, it?s almost a relief. He was just a shell of the man we knew. I haven?t grieved very much yet, but mostly I grieve for my grandmother, who has now been widowed THREE times (he was technically my step-grandfather). But I know she would do it all again the same if she could and has no regrets. He?s being cremated, so the funeral won?t be for awhile. My brother is a minister, and my grandmother want him to come down to officiate (he lives in Kentucky), plus a lot of family is traveling right now, and it?s important to her that they not cut their trips short.
I'd like to thank all of you for your kindness. Your comments and emails have meant so much to me. You ladies are the best!

I'm sorry Jacki. Your grandmother and your family are in my prayers. I lost my grandfather about a year ago and he looked a lot like how you described your grandfather. At least he is no longer suffering and is at peace now.

I'm so sorry for your loss! I am glad he went peacefully & lived a life filled with love! You grandmother might have been widowed 3 times but remember she lived & loved and is taking chances and all you can do it look up to her for living her life. She may get hurt but I think she knows it's worth it!

I'm so sorry, Jacki. I'm glad to know that he went peacefully, though, and I know what you mean to think of it as almost a relief. I will be thinking about your family, especially your grandmother. She sounds like a very brave woman.

Sounds like it was for the best, but still never easy news to take in. Your granmda is lucky to have such a thoughtful granddaughter and a close loving family.
