Bridal Shower Ideas for a couple who have it all!

I'm throwing my sister a bridal shower in December.  She has been living with her man for 5 years and they have pretty much all they need.  Not even sure if she is going to register, she hasn't yet!  Wedding is in April.  Not sure what kind of a shower to throw her...but feel she needs one. Any creative ideas out there?

 TIA

Anyone can be cool, but awesome takes practice!

Re: Bridal Shower Ideas for a couple who have it all!

  • What about a theme shower like wine or "stocking the bar"?  Who doesn't need booze, especially whe they're married? ;)  If you did stock the bar, you could ask guests to bring a bottle of liquor with a recipe for a great coctail attached.
  • Do they own Christmas stuff?  Do they have any special hobbies - i.e. wine tasting that could be used?

  • I saw a girl on the knot board that had a wine tasting for her shower.  They brought in someone that led everyone through some different tastings.  That seems fun and may go well with the stocking the bar idea!

Are they going anywhere special for a honeymoon?  You could have people get there things for the beach.  Or do they camp or ski or anything like that?  I agree with previous post.  Think about their hobbies and things they would like that may not be your typical registry gifts.

  • One of my friends was in this same situation as your sister, been living with her fiance for years before they got married. They didn;t register for gifts but there was a website where people could give honeymoon gifts. They had it all detailed out... For example, one night at resort $250, two beachside drinks $10, scuba advenure $150, romantic beachside dinner $100, couples massage $100,

I'm not sure what website they used, but it was fun to know that we "gave" a couples massage on thier honeymoon. (but i'm sure all the money went to one lump sum)

  • I love the stock the bar/wine tasting shower ideas.

Another option: One of my friends who got married last year didn't register for much stuff and at her shower, a lot of people gave her gift certificates to her favorite spa (for facials, massages, etc.) and others gave lingerie.  So you could kind of do a pamper-the-bride theme.  I think the bar/wine tasting shower might be easier to execute, though, because it might be weird to ask guests to pool $$ for a gift certificate.  At this shower, guests just did it on their own.

We did this for our wedding registry, through http://www.thebigday.com/.  The money did come to us in a lump sum, not gifts, but it was great to have all of that extra cash to spend on our honeymoon!!

I've been to shower that was a "panty-party"-- everyone brought lingerie for the bride.  That was fun to see the really modest stuff some people bought, and the really  crazy stuff other people bought!

  • Lingerie parties are the best..haha..but really, they can be quite fun!
  • I love the idea of a "holiday shower" for things like christmas ornaments and holiday decorations. They are things that no one wants to spend a ton of money on, but if you're like me, I'm so excited about our first Christmas and really want to decorate. Now would be the good time to give it..or right after Christmas.
  • i had a friend who had it all as well since they lived together, they never registered anywhere but what they did was create a poem and sent it to everyone , cant remember what it said but you can look at it online and what you can do is tell your sister that if they are planning to go on a honeymoon, they can register on www.honeyfund,com and register for excursions, dinners, contribution to the amount of the their honeymoon, like airfare hotel stay...etc.if someone would spend $50.00 on a house gift, they can contribute $50.00 to her accomodations..hey anything helps nowadays..

  • A lot of people really resent honeymoon and similar registries because it's in the gray area that resembles "Give us cash for something we should be paying for".

I'd go with a theme--stock the bar is a great one, travel is also great or maybe ask people to give the couple an "experience".  Tickets, dinner out, a membership, picnic supplies, night at a B&B etc.

Also, I'd just check to make sure they really do "have everything".  My husband and I lived together for 4 years before we got married and though it may have seemed like we had everything, we were mainly "making do" with cheap stuff until we were married.  A shower to "upgrade them" would be really nice...many guests like to go in together to get a nice and durable upgrade dgift.

  • my friend had contributions towards a photographer/photobook. Or you could do a "Entertainment" or "Staycations" theme so each person contributes some smaller items to something for fun. Items: books, dvds, cds, movie voucher, sports tickets, a bon appetit magazine, a vacation magazine, a hula hoop (?), a board game, dave and buster's coupons, imax tickets, a blow up pool float, a sunhat etc, bottles of wine.

Or you could do a stock the liquor cabinet theme: cocktail glasses, wine, rum, scotch, vodka, liquers.

  • Honeymoon registries are bad enough, but having a shower and telling people to get stuff on it is not OK.  If the bride doesn't need to be "showered" with gifts, then don't throw a shower.  There are other ways to celebrate the bride.  Maybe just throw a luncheon and say "no gifts please."
  • My husband and I were like that. We did register, though. Didn't want anyone feeling confused. Everyone could always use more stuff. We registered for things that were either upgrades of what we already had or unique items that we wouldn't really want to spend the extra money on.One on which was the Heineken Beertender.

    A classic shower is fine.
