My Dream House

So DH and I were watching House Hunters the other night and I saw my dream house!  It was this beautiful reproduction craftsman house.  The rooms were nice and open and there were lots of windows, a nice porch, and in a nice neighborhood.  This house would clearly be in the $400,000 here.  How much in Atlanta, Georgia????  $279,000!!!!!!  And the kicker, it was a single woman and her dog Whoopie that moved into it!!!!!!!! Damn Whoopie, is living in my house!

Re: My Dream House

  • I LOVE that show!!!!  It just amazes me how much reality prices vary from state to state!
  • No kidding!  Our jaws dropped when we saw how cheap the house was (compared to what it would be here).  If I wasn't such a family person, I think I'd move to Atlanta!
  • I love that show too.

Another good one is Property Virgins. I love it when the people are like "yeah, we would like granite counters, stainless steel appliances, hardwood floors, 3 bedrooms, at least 2 bathrooms one of which has to be part of a master suite with a jacuzzi tub. Also, needs to have a big yard, with a pool and a garage. We're approved for $150k and we live in LA, can we make this happen?"

    It makes me laugh...a lot!

  • Stupid Whoope!!  Too bad you can't go down there and kick them out!

What houses are worth elsewhere (out of NE) always amazes me.  We were watching My House is Worth What? a few months ago and saw an absolutly gourgeous house in Florida.  It had 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, gourmet kitchen, a huge sunroom, was on a golf course, had a huge inground pool w/ a jacuzzi etc, and they had almost an acre of land.  We both almost fell over, our jaws literally dropped  when they said the price.  They were going to put it on the market for $315K, and the realitor doubted if they would get that much for it!!  A house like that would go for about $500K here!  A few years ago my childhood home in AZ went on the market.  It would go for about $250K here and they were selling it for $130K.  I really had resist the urge to hop the next plane to Phoenix and buy it.

  • Those shows kill me!  We saw an episode on What is my house worth and the house looked practically identical to ours (4 BR, finished basement and about 4,000 square feet) and the homeowners were hoping it would be worth $400,000.  How I wish I could live in the south!

  • I love all those shows!  It is amazing how much prices vary.  And I agree, Property Virgins & My First Home, crack me up!
  • I missed that episode, dang it!  We watch it nearly every night, but this week's been busy!  Damn Whoopie is right, I say go pay her a visit with a nice big biscuit LOL!
  • Ha! You girls are funny.  Jodi, you are so right about their wishlists!  In my head I could say I'd like all of those things, but what starter home first of all was built in the decade where granite counter tops and stainless steel were used in kitchens, and secondly if that house existed for that price, it wouldn't be for sale!
