Hi Ladies,
I posted the other night about a possible relocation to the Harvard/Worcester area and you were all so nice in your responses that I thought I'd try again. (BTW, thanks for the update that Harvard and Worcester are like an hour apart -- truly, I had no idea and I feel a little dumb about that)
Anyone live in Westminster? DH is interviewing today for a new job in Harvard. Would this be a bad commute for him? I think that I may have found a house (yes, before he actually has the job)
Is the school district any good? Is the town nice? Who are the big real estate agencies? Are there shops, etc. What is the main grocery store? and most importantly ... is there a Target?? I'm not sure that I can live without a Target (I feel like I spend half my life there)
Any info you can provide will be much appreciated. I am extremely nervous about all of this and just want to know everything I can.
Thanks again!
Re: Anyone near Westminster, MA??
I just had to google to see where that is haha. Honestly, the commute would probably suck because it would be going east on Rt 2 through Leominster. That said, they are not that far apart, so even with a lot of traffic it might not be longer than 45 minutes, which is an average commute in Mass.
I can't give any insight as to what that town is like, but if you are looking at anything closer to Harvard and east I can help you out. Littleton, Ayer, Groton, etc. As far as Target - there is one in Leominster, which I shop at. It's probably the closest one to the Harvard area. I believe they just put one in Lowell as well, but there are a ton of other stores around the one in Leominster so I would prefer to go there (in the Target plaza alone there is BBB, Kohls, ***'s, Best Buy, and some restaurants, plus there is a mall down the street).
Oh and FYI, I think anything west of Leominster starts to be more of a dead area.. I can't think of how best to put this to someone who isn't familiar with the state, but basically if you are from Mass there is Massachusetts, then there is Western Mass. It's like a whole different world out there hahaha.
*edit - that is D!ck's sporting goods I was talking about, nest. Get your mind out of the gutter!
I live in Gardner, the town next to it so I know Westminster well. It is a nice, quiet town. It is part of the Oakmont Reg. School district, which is one of the best in the state. Westminster has a couple small restaurants, bars, stores, etc. but do not really have chain stores. The closest grocery stores would be in Gardner (5-10 min), and Target, etc. is in Leominster, which is about 15 min.
You would be about 30 min from Harvard.
Thank you both for the info! Now DH just has to land that job!! He's out there right now for the interview today. He said it went really well ... so fingers crossed.
Thanks for the help!
