Evening Ladies,
What are your thoughts on this vaccine? My lil brother just came home with a consent form to receive the vaccination. I do not really want him to get it but I would love to hear the opinions of others.
Please let me know if you are for or against it and why. I am seriously looking for advice on what to do.
Thanx
Re: H1N1 Vaccination
1. over 1000 people and 76 children have died from H1N1, and it's not even flu season yet.
2. If this strain had been identified a few months earlier, it would have been included in the standard flu vaccine.
3. Children, Pregnant women and elderly or immune suppressed individuals are at particular risk for this virus. Even if you are not in these groups, if you catch the virus, you may transmit it to someone at risk.
4. The clinical trials and clinical preparation of the vaccine is the same as that used for the "regular flu vaccine" used safely every year.
5. If you are concerned about the preservative thimerosol, thimerosol-free vaccine is available for children. (although thimerosol vaccines are also safe)...
6. Sadly, we now live in a world of fear-mongering, where rumor and hoax fuel paranoia, thanks FOX news.
My bottom line. This vaccine is not any more "New" than any year's regular vaccine. Both in production and testing.
One of my best friends JUST (ie last night) had her 3 year old released from the Pediatric NICU -H1N1 related pneumonia--they thought they were going to lose her.
If you (or a child/person you are responsible for) are in a high risk group, you would be foolish to forgo getting the vaccine (but of course to each their own).
As for normal, healthy adults, if you get H1N1 you will be sick/laid up for a few days, & feel like crap. I'm sure you can live with that, but do keep in mind that while you're sniffling your way through the mall/grocery store/Duane Reed you may be infecting someone else who is more sensitive. Stay home if you are sick, cover your sneezes, and wash your hands regularly.
