Hotel recs in Chattanooga

My hubby and I are wanting to stay in Chattanooga  for a weekend in Sept.  I don't want  to stay in a bad area. (which has happened before)  Also, I was wanting to try a nicer restraunt.  Any recs on either will be great!  TIA

Re: Hotel recs in Chattanooga

  • We stayed here a couple of years ago and LOVED it!

Sorry, I don't have any recs on nice restaurants. We are so in love with Lupi's Pizza Pies that's just about the only place we eat in Chattanooga. :)

  • DH is from Chattanooga, but we always stay in hotels when we visit ...

We LOVE the Sheraton Reed House in the downtown Bluff View Art district - it can be pricey, but there are often good deals on Priceline.

H and I tried the Stonefort Inn over Christmas and were, honestly, pretty disappointed, mostly because it was really noisy and we got very little relaxation. If you were wanting a B&B, I've heard great things about the Lookout Lake Bed and Breakfast (a bit farther from town, but still convenient.)

I agree with PP - Lupi's is awesome for a casual meal! For breakfast, Rembrandt's Coffee House in Bluff View is yummy and has a really cool vibe. And for fine dining, 212 Market is probably the best I have had there. It's downtown and is a green certified restaurant - great wine list and has a cool, arty atmosphere.

Have fun, Chatty is a great town!

  • We've been wanting to try St. John's and/or The Meeting Place.

  • The Chattanoogan Hotel is great! We stayed there on our honeymoon and once for my birthday since it is just 30 minutes away. It is not in walking distance to anything though. If you want to be able to have nice views and in walking distance to great stuff, try one of the bed and breakfasts in the Bluff View Art District. (chattanoogafun.com)

You MUST go the Station House to eat. It is located at the Chattanooga Choo Choo and there menu is online now. Fabulous singing waiters! James Rogers started his career there.

The Vaudeville Cafe is great too. It is a murder mystery theatre. I have seen both the HIgh School Reunion and the Reneck Italian Wedding. Both are great shows but I'd reccommend the wedding one best.

Other reccommended Downtown restaurants/etc include: The Boathouse, Rembrants Coffee House, Clumpies Ice Cream on the north shore of Walnut Street Bridge, and Big River Grille.

  • The Chattanoogan is not 30 mins away. It is right downtown....I'd say maybe 10 blocks from the area where people hang out.

    ?

I actually prefer the downtown Marriott & that is where I always tells people to stay. It is a high rise hotel. Nice rooms....really nice & comfy beds. $123 per night last time I looked. It is near tha Chattanoogan.

    ?

Restaurant recs....if you want something not so casual try: St. John's, Hennen's, 212 Market

?More casual pics: Tony's, Rembrandt's, Blue River Steakhouse, Big River Grill (they also have a bar area with billiards that is a cool hang out place) Mellow Mushroom, Lupi's, Mudpie, Greyfriar's

    ?

I grew up in Chatt....so I know it very well! :D?

  • Sorry if that was misunderstood, it is 30 minutes from me in North Georgia
    .
  • Ahhh! Thanks for clarifying! I was wondering how slow you would have to drive from there to make a 30 minute drive! LOL!?

    ?

Wow....I had quite a few typos there, eh??

  • I know this post was a while ago, but I just saw it. I live in the chattanooga area.  Defintely stay downtown...the chattanoogan or the read house are great. St. John's is amazing for a really fine dining experience, or the meeting place right next door is more casual and is from the same kitchen. Tony's Pasta is amazing-they make their own fresh, plus you can sit outside and it's right next to rembrandt's which has great coffees and pastries. Be sure to walk to the hunter museum and on the walking bridge across to coolidge park...it's so beautiful! For sandwiches my favorite place is called Vine Street in North Chatt.  Haven't eaten there bc I'm not into sushi-but if you are sushi nabe is supposed to be amazing.
