I'm ready! It seems like several people are interested in a book club. How should we pick a first book? The weekend is a great time for me to get started.

Re: Book Club
I'm in! If everyone posts their ideas here, we could take the suggestions and make them into a poll to select the first book. Or, we could ask schaiblejen for her advice, since she said she has quite a few good ideas.
ooo i do have lots of great suggestions... I am a bit of a historical fiction junkie, so those that we have read in our book club have been my favorite and popular with most of our memebers in the book club...
1) Molokai by Alan Brennen (not sure on the last name)
2) Shadow of the wind by carlos luis zafon (mystery and Hist. fiction)
3) The 19th Wife by David Ebberhoff
We have also read some great memoirs as well
1) The Tendar Bar
2) The Glass Castle
Thats all i can remember for now, i am headed out of town straight from work, i can look through my book shelf at home for more if you need more!!
I am in! I'm right downtown, about 7 p.m. any week night works for me, and I'm very open to whatever books, but don't have a bunch of suggestions. Maybe once more people post so we have an idea about what genre people are interested in. Or something from the list above (I know people who have read The Glass Castle and I've heard good things...).
I'll check back frequently to see what we come up with!
I would also be interested in joining this book group. Sorry I didn't say anything on the initial thread, but I've been out of town for the past couple days. I am in another book club as well, but really enjoy reading. Would everyone want to meet every 6 weeks, so its easier for those of us in 2 bookclubs to be able to finish the books?
Weeknights (except Mondays) in the evenings in the city would be best for me. I prefer fiction or history, but am really open to genre.
Ok, so here is what I am proposing. Since November just started, lets pick a book and we can meet maybe in early December. If we went every six weeks that would keep up from having to reschedule for any of the upcoming holidays...Just a thought.
Also, what if everybody posted one book that they'd want to read, then we can just randomly place them with months. Somebody could write all the books down, and then draw them out and the first one we'll start right now, the next one in December, etc.
What do you think? Feel free to add sugestions, or a book recommendation!
I haven't checked this board in awhile, but I'm very much interested in a book club if you're still accepting members. I live in Lakeview and can get most places within the city anytime after 5:30PM.
As for books-i love historical fiction (anything by Phillipa Gregory), regular fiction, the occasional chick-lit, mystery, etc. I've had Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See sitting on my nightstand forever now but have yet to read it. I'm currently in the middle of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I really open to whatever though.
I'm going to add a couple suggestions to the list and post a poll.

Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson
