insurance bleh!

We're considering putting Chris back on my health insurnace since hers, while costing the same monthly, kind of blows (and has higher copays). Just did the math, and this year is it $102/month in extra taxes. Thanks DOMA. I hope that 1200 in extra income per year helps the federal gov't protect *someone* from the influence of gay families.Tongue Tied

Re: insurance bleh!

  • isn't it fun?

we got the extra special news recently that they had been incorrectly calculating my withholding and i get an extra $100ish taken from every paycheck for the next 5 months to make up for it Angry

  • I am still trying to convince Chris it makes sense to fork over what (with premium diffenences) amounts to $150 more/month....my coverage is SO much better...covers IUI too...hers is $15 more/copay + 15% coinsurance (mine is 10%) and mine covers MUCH more!
  • I am genuinely afraid to do our taxes this time around. I am on S's plan now.

How do you figure out how much it will cost you in taxes? Sorry, I am really clueless about tax stuff. It's one area that intimidates me and I choose to leave to the professionals.

The extra taxes should already be coming out of her paycheck, so its probably not something you'll need to worry about come tax time.

  • The imputed income is killing us.  It shows K earning about $5K more a year thanks to my insurance. lovely.

    exactly.

  • yeah, it sucks. i'm elligible to be on my wife's plan, and her company literally pays everything so she would have no premium to add me. unfortunately it would increase her taxes by 3k per year according to the worksheet we were given when they started offering same-sex benefits. since my premium is less than that annually, well, it just doesn't make sense for me to go on her plan. i'm glad we have the option of either one, but man it sucks.
