Gift for host/hostess of Halloween Party?

We are going to a Halloween/Birthday party tonight and I normally would bring wine, but I'm debating if there is another idea I could bring something else? Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks!

  • YES!!! Hahahaha!!! I just saw your post on NJ Board!! I started here today to get ideas and was going to post there!!!! Hahahaha!! Great minds think a like I guess :-) Hopefully someone has a good answer for us :-)
  • Wine is NEVER a bad hostess gift!  Other ideas:

    • candle
    • something for breakfast the next morning (quick bread, bagles w/smoked salmon, fancy coffee)
    • cute serving dish (may not be used that night, but for the future)
    • box of candy/truffles
    • fancy vinegar/salsa/dessert sauce/jam or jelly
    • hand soap and/or lotion (not drugstore brand!)
    • dish towels/oven mitts

Some of my friends bring a gift, most don't.  I would appreciate anything, because I feel the gesture is the real gift.

  • A bag of crushed party ice in a reusable shopping bag.
You can never have too much ice for a party!

I have also given a breakfast basket of items for the next morning like pp suggested.

  • We had our Halloween party a few weeks ago and got a few bottles of wine - which was so nice!

I also appreciated things like ice and mixers, as well as baked goodies. I don't like flowers for bigger parties - I already have too much to do w/o having to find a vase, but if they're in a vase already bring it on! I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I'm not a fan of candles, soaps, etc.

Oh - one year someone gave me a box of Penzey's spices, hot cocoa, cinnamon, etc. That was awesome.

  • What about a cute Halloween frame or decoration that they can set out each year?  A lot of those types of things are on sale 50% off today.  If you got a picture frame, you could take a pic of you guys together and send her a copy, so she could put it in the frame for next year.  Another idea would be a fall inspired container filled with candy corn and peanuts.  A great snack and the jar can be used again in the future!

  • Find something fall-themed like:

a jar of gourmet apple butter, a basket of pumpkin muffins or fresh apple cider and a spice packet for mulled cider, fall colored taper candles tied with ribbon and a silk leaf, leaf-shaped tealight holders, fall theme tea towels, Halloween wine charms.

I'd stay away from candy.  It's likely your host will have candy for the party or leftovers from trick-or-treaters.
