Thanksgiving Menu

My DH and I host Thanksgiving dinner for my MIL, stepFIL, and SIL.  I've keep the menu pretty simple because it's only 5 people and stepFIL is kind of a PITA picky eater.  I serve:

Cheese/crackers/dip for appetizer

Roasted Turkey

Garlic redskin smashed potatoes

Green bean caserole

Sweet potato casserole

Broccoli salad

Dinner rolls

Dessert-usually pumpkin and apple pie

I think I want to add a little more this year, but I'm not sure what.  I figure if stepFIL doesn't like it, too bad, he doesn't have to eat it.  I was hoping you guys could inspire me.  What's on your menu or what do you eat every year that's awesome?

  • Apps:

Cold shrimp with spicy cocktail sauce

    Cheese and crackers

    Dinner:

First course: butternut squash or pumpkin soup (creamy tomato for my brother -- which is just canned Campbell's soup)

    Main course:

    Cider Brined and Glazed Turkey
    Sage-Sausage stuffing
Mixed vegetables (baby corn and carrots)
    Broccoli with garlic seasoning
    Cheesy mashed potatoes
    Dinner rolls

    Dessert:

    Some variety of cheesecake
    Pumpkin Pie

  • Our menu so far:

Smoked turkey (so excited for this, DH has made this before and it's delicious)

    cornbread stuffing with sausage

steamed green beans with bacon (DH won't eat green bean cassarole so this is our compromise)

    mashed potatoes with homemade gravy

    homemade rolls

    ambrosia salad

dessert will be pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie. Undecided on appetizers, it will depend what time we plan for the big meal. If we have appetizers it will likely just be cheese and crackers/fruit, although the baked brie mentioned above has my mouth watering.

Oh, and this is just for the two of us. We will be eating for a week!

  • I make an apple sausage stuffing.  Its always GOOD! And instead of making sweet potato caserole, I just cube sweet potatoes, and add them to a baking pan with butter and drizzle with balsamic vinegar and a bit of cinnamon.  After they are baked, I top them with a few shavings of parmesan cheese and crushed toasted walnuts...mmmmmm.

A few years ago, being an avid Harry Potter fan, I decided to make pumpkin pasties instead of pumpkin pie.  There were freakin delicious, but boy were they time consuming to make!!
