Re: ajones

  • A chili-rubbed ribeye steak (the rub was made from a mix of different spices) with an avocado, pepper and tomato salsa with corn tortillas and a smokey cab. The entire meal we just kept saying how good it was. I made the salsa as directed and it said it would serve 4 - um, yeah, we killed it the same night.
  • That sounds amazing... do you have a recipe handy?

  • BIP - What cab?

I just got 7 Deadly Zins last night and I loved it.  I'm making it a point to try new wines.

    That steak sounds yumyum

  • I saw that on twitter, good for you 10YT!

ps - the FO soup that I made last night was loosely based off of this recipe:

  • nabum - thanks for linking the FO soup recipe! I have the recipe card for the steak at home, but will add it tonight.

10yt - It was a 2006 Mount Vedeer Hess Cabernet. It was much more $$ than we usually buy, but holy smokes, it was delish! We killed the whole bottle that night. :D

  • Curious - how much was it?  I posted a thread on MM the other week asking for people's favorite wines and cost if they knew.  It was a range, some were even in the $50+ range.

7 Deadly Zins was about $20 or $21 regular, but $11 on sale, so I got 2 bottles.

  • This was one of the more expensive ones in the shipment, I think $40 for wine club members, $50 for retail. Most of the bottles we drink are in the $10-$15 range (yay costco!), but I will say, I sure do enjoy a pricey bottle every now and again. There really is a difference in taste/quality.
  • That's good to know that there really IS a difference in taste.

I'll have to look at Costco's wines next time I go.  Any favorites from there?

We're mostly red drinkers and we really like the reds from Unico (sp?), Peach Canyon and Hess. We are also HUGE fans of the Cameron Hughes wines - the cab blend and the pinot noir are particularly awesome. :)

  • NOted!  Thank you!  I'm going to post that in my MM thread so I have it all in one place.
