NJ nestie with a question re: childrens museums

We will be visiting chicago over New years with our 2.5 year old. What is the best of the childrens museums? I was looking at the Chicago childrens museum on navy pier and the Dupage Childrens museum in Naperville. We are staying with family in Plano.

Thanks for your help!

Re: NJ nestie with a question re: childrens museums

  • We really like the Children's Museum on Navy Pier- but haven't been to the others yet.  There is also the Kohl's Children's Museum.  Note that you will have to pay to park at Navy Pier- if you plan to visit the pier and maybe do a bit of shopping downtown, that might work best.
  • Glenview might be a bit of a hike for you, but Kohl's Children's Museum is a great one.

But, if you can take the Metra from Plano (I'm not sure about the lines out that way) to the city, it's very easy to get to Navy Pier from Union Station or Ogilvie (the two major metra stations).  The children's museum there is very nice and there is also ice skating, the ferris wheel and other fun things for kids to do.  If your LO is into trains, prepare to be badgered- there's a nice Thomas the Tank Engine store there :)

  • DuPage Children's Museum is awesome! There are two full floors of exhibits. It's also a lot closer to Plano than Chicago is. On new year's eve they  have an event called Bubble Bash, it's a countdown to Noon (9am - Noon). It's also off the train line, but you would have to drive to Aurora to get the train. At that point you might as well just drive the rest of the way to Naperville. It has free parking. If you have any questions about DuPage Children's Museum you can e-mail me at dainaryanwedding@gmail.com. I am very familiar with it.
