Thanksgiving table decor for the challenged...

I am not very crafty, but I have been hosting Thanksgiving for a couple of years and really want to do it up in a low-level Martha Stewart's illegitimate sister kind of way...

What can I do?  Suggestions?  I am open to anything...

Re: Thanksgiving table decor for the challenged...

  • What about a big mirror with some tea lights & some tulle or flowers?

My mom always just had flowers put in her big, white soup tureen and called it good. That isn't very Martha Stewart-ish though.

  • A friend's mom made a gorgeous centerpiece with pretty Christmas decorations and her footed covered cake plate.  Turn cover upside down like a bowl, fill the cover with pretty shiny things, put the plate on it, and turn it right side up.  Then she put some glass pebble things around the base with some curls of that wire with little foil stars.  Totally pretty.

Maybe you could use pinecones or itty bitty squashes/gourds to make it more fall and less Christmas.  And scatter a few pretty fall leaves around the base.

  • ooh I love the mirror idea and the one with pinecones and balls underneath a clear bowl.

Please keep the ideas coming, I really wanna knock it outta the park this Thanksgiving...

  • One year I did pale gold tablecloths and had really muted colored leave garlands that ran down the center. One either side of the garland nestled in the leaves I put glass votives with candles that I wrapped in frosted velum scrapbook paper to give it a frosted look and wrapped red, gold or orange ribbon around each. I also got white pumpkins and gourds to put directly on top of the leaves in between the candles. I rubbed distressing ink in the crevices of those to age them a bit. It turned out really pretty and it was pretty easy to do.

I've also carved out big pumpkins and used them as vases for flowers and then wrapped the whole pumpkin in bittersweet vines. Or you could get cake platters and buy big florist foam balls, soak them in water and stick in lots of orange mums to cover the ball then put them on top of the platters and use moss and acorns and pinecones.

  • I love Martha--- some simple things that can really make your table stand out

    1) If you use a tablecloth please make it a very neutral plain linen cloth. Dont use a print (this can look too amature)---Though some really amazing people can pull it off (not me.)

    2) You can put a colorful runner over the muted table cloth

~~ Maybe instad of running it the length of the table, get or sew a "wider" runner and run it widthwise across the table. (this is great if you have join two tables together, it covers up the crack)

    3) Use linen napkins, folded so they have a pocet to hold the silverware.

    4) have place cards this year

    5) Use a mini pumpkin, or pear on each plate for the place cards

  • A friend of mine had some pretty apothecary jars. She filled them about 1/4 way with corn kernels and placed small pumpkins on top of the corn.

    Here are some other ideas:
