Anyone Lose A Dog??

DH and I found a dog last night.  He followed me and my puppy home when we went out for a walk.  He's a tri-colored, large beagle (about 14" tall) or a beagle mix, adult, not neutered, collars but no tags, no microchip.  He appears healthy.  We found him northwest of the city, right near Sea World.  I checked all around my neighborhood, but no one recognizes him.

He's a sweet dog, and we're taking care of him until his owners come forward.  We posted a "found" ad at the Angel of Mercy emergency clinic, and I'm also going to notify Animal Control and the Humane Society tomorrow.

Anyone lose a dog or know someone who has?

  • Awwww!  That's so great that you are taking care of him! Big Smile

  • What about posting something on Craigslist too?

  • I already posted on craigslist--twice!  Thanks for the idea, though!  Smile

I've also contacted the SPCA and the Animal Rescue League.  Apparently Animal Care Services was closed today because no one answered their phones the multiple times that I called.  When I called 311, they said to put an ad on Pet Harbor, which I also did.  And the SPCA gave me a number for Man and Beast, which I guess is a lost and found organization.  No one answered their phones today, either.

No one has reported a lost beagle to the shelters yet, and I haven't gotten any hits from my craigslist ads, which is interesting since I've had him since Thursday.  I'm starting to think that we aren't going to find his owner, although I guess it's possible that they're away for the holiday weekend and don't even realize he's gone yet.

We're doing our best to find his owners, but if no one comes forward, we plan to keep him.  He's a sweet dog, and our puppy thinks he makes a great friend!

  • Express-News lets you place an ad for free if you have a lost/found pet. Try posters up in your neighborhood if you haven't done that yet.  That's what I did when we found a collar-less kitty.  The owners called almost a week later.

That's great that you're willing to keep him if no one comes forward :)

  • Still no sign of the dog's owners...

I noticed something just yesterday that's really bothering me, and it's that he squeezes his eyes shut when you raise your hand in front of his face.  It looks like he's getting ready to be smacked!  Poor guy.  He also had a super long claw that grew into his paw pad a disfigured it.  It really seems like his owners didn't take very good care of him.

We've had him for long enough now that we got the OK from Animal Care Services to keep him!  And the Animal Rescue League is willing to help with his vet care!

  • That's great LandK!!!  Hope everything works out with him.
