Am I the only one that think that this got COMPLETELY misconstrued by the media? Cole's lack of mental preparation in the offseason is completely his responsibility, but I can understand his desire for a fresh start. I didn't hear the complete quote until yesterday during the game, but Joe Buck totally misrepresented the quote and acted like Cole said he wanted to lose the series so the season would be over. I would have never read into it like that.
For the record, the quote was "I can't wait for it to end. It's been mentally draining. At year's end, you just can't wait for a fresh start."
Re: Cole Hamels quote
I desperately hope not! I don't necessarily think it was the right thing to say at the time, but let's face it, he's in no position to be pitching right now. He is mentally unprepared and far too emotional on the mound. I think maybe that was his admission to the media that he acknowledges his inability to be effective on the pitching this season, much less this series.

""Sometimes I might not say the best things or the smartest things, but I've learned and am learning," Hamels said. "I wasn't able to sleep the past couple of nights because of it."
I hate Cole Hamels with the passion of 1000 burning suns, and I think he is getting screwed on this. He said multiple times in that interview he wants to pitch game 7.
He admitted that he did too much after the WS win last year and that he didn't mentally prepare himself for this season. If you remember he did a ton of individual appearances and promotional stuff that wasn't required by the team. He didn't take the time to get himself ready for the season and it shows.
Yeah, I saw that. He's 26 FFS, he's going to say boneheaded things. I was just pissed the media blew it up like he doesn't care about the team and that he wants to lose the series.
I'm getting sick of seeing his Comcast Triple Play commercial during the WS.
I see your perspective, but I can also see where he's coming from. I am the type of person to say something that sounds correct in my head, but sounds completely wrong when it comes out. Not my favorite quality
IMO he doesn't deserve to pitch game 7 (based on his previous performance, not his words), plus his quote indicates that he understands he is not in a great mental state at this time. Unfortunately for him, although he may want to pitch again in the series, I think he sealed the deal to end his season. Guess we'll never know unless we win tomorrow night.
Did you see this about Myers and Hamels?

What?! Joe Buck would never, EVER take a quote out of context to twist his own tale...that's crazy!!!! = )
I agree though they are taking it out of line, they made it a whole topic on PTI today. The all skipped over the 3 minute chatter of how much he enjoyed pitching with the Phillies. It will blow over like everything else, the sports media (and media and general) likes to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
