XP: Anyone have experience with Donorchoose.org?

The adult kids are thinking of doing a charitable contribution for my dad and step-mom this year for Christmas and, because they are current and former teachers (dad is now at a univeristy), we were thinking they might like us giving to an education cause on their behalf.
We don't live in the same town as them, so I don't know how to go about finding out their local school needs...so we were considering donorschoose.
Does anyone have any experience with them or any other ideas for a good education organization to give to?

I'm a teacher and I love donorschoose.org! To be honest though I have never donated $, I have just posted projects. I think it is very reputable & if you want to donate to a certain area you can narrow your search.
I received a 25.00 gift card to donate a few months ago, from Crate and Barrel. I choose a local classroom to donate the money to. After I donated and the classroom reached it goal, I received a very nice thank you email and a few more emails updating me on the status of the project.
I like the site and the idea behind it.
