Tyler Florence wasnt on the list. He is my favorite. I love Tylers Ultimate and when he used to do Food 911.
I also like Bobby Flay, Ina, Giada, Guy and Paula Deen.
When I was on maternity leave I was addicted that show! When I watch it now it makes me think so much about my days on maternity leave that I actually get sad that baby is so big and I have to go to work
I love Giada. She's my fave. I think she is the most down to earth and entertaining to watch and I love her recipes. I have 3 of her cookbooks and they are amazing. B is Italian and loves pasta, so that was one of the first things that drew me to her. Plus, she's just so cute and bubbly, but not in an annoying way like Rachel Ray and Paula Deen can be. And I like that her recipes can be on the lighter side. My only criticism is that B and I are definitely sauce people and her sauces tend to be very simple and/or thin. Like olive oil and lemon zest. . . um, that's not sauce, that's grease on noodles. But her recipes are a great place to start and if I'm not happy with one particular part they are easy to tweak to our tastes.
B loves Alton Brown. I enjoy his show but I think his recipes can be a little over the top. I can appreciate taking your time and going out of you way for some recipes but he's pretty crazy with some stuff. Like making your own beef jerky with air filters and a fan?? Entertaining but not very practical or realistic. Plus I like hearing the history and science behind the food.
There are a lot of the other personalities that we like but those are our faves. Bobby Flay makes great food but he's not the most entertaining. Paula Deen and Rachel Ray are cute but again I can only take them in small doses. Plus Paula Deen's recipes are way too rich for us. How her arteries aren't clogged beyond recognition is beyond me!! I like watching Ina Garten but her food tends to be too complicated for me. (Make your own stock?? Puh-leaz!) Sandra Lee is nice for a quick, convenient recipe but some of her stuff doesn't taste that great. Emeril and Mario Batali are two that I can't really watch. I just don't find them entertaining at all. Tyler Florence is just eh, to me.
YIKES!!! Sorry for the ramble! Can you tell that we watch the Food Network a LOT?? We even went to their studio in Chelsea Market and ate at several of the personalities restaurants while we were on our honeymoon in NYC! We are definitely foodies. Good for my skinny-minny hubs, not so good for me! LOL.
Ok, seriously, I watch and DVR Food Network more than any other channel on TV. I have so many food shows recorded by end of week it takes me a half day on a weekend to view them all. lol
I voted Bobby Flay in this poll just because I love his personality the best. I also love Giada (as does my husband haha), Paula Deen, Guy Fieri, Ina Garten, Robin Miller, Elie Kreiger, Rachael Ray and most recently Down Home with the Neeleys. Actually the only ones I dont care for are Alton Brown and Sanda Lee. Just never could get into those 2.
Most recipes I end up making from FN are from Giada, Ellie and Guy.
My husband really enjoys Guy and Bobby.
For those of you that love Paula Deen, have you tried her Not Yo' Mama's Banana Pudding yet?! If so let me know how it is. Dying to make this!
Layne, Mike loves Alton Brown too! I think all the science behind it appeals to the inner geek in him! But he doesn't like Giada. He says, "I can't trust someone who looks like they never eat."
I feel the same way about Tyler Florence - just "eh" - but I did try his Lemon Curd Trifle with Fresh Berries this weekend, and it was a-MAZE-ing. I'm going to try it with Splenda next time!
Paula Deen I like to watch, but I never really try her recipes. Same with Giada. I don't like Rachael Ray, but it's not because she's annoying (even though she can be at times), it's because her recipes don't appeal to me and she tips lousy on that $40 a Day show. Ina Garten is actually the one that grates on my nerves - I feel like she is talking down to me when I watch her!
But Jamie, Jamie, Jamie - I LOVE him! His new show is awesome!
Um, yeah, we love FN too!!

Jacki - "I can't trust someone who looks like they never eat." That's so funny b/c a couple of our other foodie friends say that exact thing about Giada. But I believe some people are blessed with great genes and can eat like normal folks and it just disappears off them. I've had a roommate, a couple of friends, and a husband who are like this! I still love her. I love her personality and excitement. And I love that she has a sweet-tooth. AS far as Rachel Ray, I agree with you. Sometimes her "classics" that she does in 30 minutes, they seem like a stretch. She cheats a lot with ingredients and her recipes don't sound that appetizing to me. I've also noticed that she's a crummy tipper on $40/day. I think B and I have calculated it and it was like 10% or something ridiculous. Not cool!
Chris - I don't really consider Duff a chef. But you are right, he's definitely a Food Network personality. B and I love his show! I love Mary Alice, personally, and Geoff is B's favorite. We just love that whole group and their dry sense of humor. What a fun gang to watch! Thanks for reminding us about Ace of Cakes! That's one of our fave FN shows! How could I forget it??
Paula Deen's recipes definitely aren't for every-day consumption, but I have repeated a couple of her dessert recipes for special occasions- the better than sex cake, banana pudding and krispy kreme bread pudding are faves. I have a major sweet tooth.
We repeat a few of Rachel Ray's as well, but they are altered quite a bit- she doesn't really cook light either. My favorite of hers is a pumpkin sausage pasta, but she calls for you to cook the sausage in two tablespoons of oil! Aack! I don't watch her show though, she bugs.
Ok, so tell me about the banana pudding. Is this the Not Yo' Mamas' with the chessman cookies? Is it really that much better than pudding with nilla wafers? My mom is from Georgia and is very nitpicky about her banana pudding, but I would love to serve this up for a meal. Review please!
I love Tyler Florance and have done a few of his dishes because they are usually pretty easy and super yummy! I loved Food 911 - I learned a lot!
I have done a lot of Rachel Ray dishes as well - although she can get annoying, I love me some 30 Minute Meals.
Paula Dean - also a fave - I have never made any of her dishes though because I cannot imagine consuming that much butter....ever....lol.?
That's the one. We make it with the chessmen cookies- it's very good, but it makes a lot. Does your mom make her pudding from scratch? If so, I would love that recipe, if you are willing to share. We make a chocolate pudding from scratch that is so good. I would love to try banana. When I was pregnant, I couldn't get enough of banana pudding.
haha, I wish I could get my mom to share the recipe with ME even! Yeah its her own southern style puddin' she will not at all part with the details of the recipe. There is something in there I cant put my finger on that she adds that makes it stand out.....maybe one day I will get the answer. I always tell her on our next family cruise I am gonna give her a few Bahama Mama's and my sis and I are gonna have a spill secret fest with her haha. She never drinks so it would be oh too easy hehe. I am gonna definitely try the PD recipe though....maybe for Labor Day or something like that! I bet the chessman are just too good in it. And I hope I have a pudding craving whenever I get pregnant, that would be a nice craving to have!!
I LOVE Rachel Ray and I really don't think she's annoying a little corny yes but that's totally my style.
I prep most of my ingredients the way she does so most of my meals from her cookbook are 30 minutes.
I also love Mario Batali. I don't see his show just on Iron Chef America. I love the food network so I pretty much like them all.
The Hubby loves Alton Brown...I'm just ehhh about it. I like to get to the point.
I like Giada alot too.
Ehh...its Monday my posts suck today.
