opinions please

Okay girls ... I'm looking for honest opinions here and I know if I need honesty this is the place to come :)

I've always had this need/urge to be creative and for the last year or so I've wanted to put this to use for others to enjoy. I've gone back and forth with jewelry making or doing different types of papergoods. I guess I'm wondering if you'd buy handmade jewelry or papergoods (like invites, holiday cards, announcements).

Matt has given me the go ahead to do whatever makes me happy, but I don't know if it's something that the general public would be interested in.

Re: opinions please

  • definitely, I would if it was something that was my style, of course.

You should set up an Etsy shop!

  • Honestly - I would/do buy handmade jewelry and paper goods. But they have to be good quality and not look like crap.

I think handmade things are great gifts as well. It's thoughtful and a little piece of you.

ETA: For instance, H's aunt made "notecards" for all of the girls in the family last year. She cut colorful pieces of paper and had her kids help her stamp the person's initial on the top for personal stationary. She coupled that with colorful envelops. It was very simple, but a GREAT gift. Things like that sell quickly.

  • I agree with Christen go ahead and open the ETSY shop. With this economy you'll see a lot more people shopping there.

  • I'm in agreement with everyone else that as long as something is a) my style and b) not a piece of crap, I would totally buy it.  I bought my wedding jewelry as well as all my BM's jewelry off of etsy.

  • What is this Etsy you all speak of? It sounds like something I should know about. And I agree with the others. I buy handmade cards and jewelry. I work at a big company and we have employee fairs from time to time. I get stuff there. Now I know who makes the good stuff so I call them when I need a card. You should give it a shot! What kinds of things are you thinking of making?
