I'm from the Monterey Peninsula, born and raised. My DH is from Kitchener and we moved to Guelph September 15th. It's great to "meet" another Cali transplant!
Re: *MrsRose2B*
Oh I love Monterey! I haven't been there in a long time but hopefully I'll get to take DH there soon! I spent most of my time in the San Diego area.
My DH is from Montreal but has lived in Mississauga for 10 years. My PR paperwork just went through last week so I can finally feel settled and start looking into jobs.
It's great to meet you too!
UGh I have to do that next. We are waiting for my son's citizenship and then I can do my PR.
How long did it take for yours to go through?
It took about 4 and 1/2 months and it actually got sent back twice! The first time was because I forgot to check one stupid box. Then the second time was because they wanted another police report. I got the one from the FBI that was clear but then they asked for a state one. I don't know why, maybe it was a new thing or maybe I misread it the first time.
I had to send in my passport last week and they said to give them about 3 weeks for processing and then I will actually be able to "land" in Canada with my belongings.
I'm so glad this process is almost over!
Yeah, I think they staple in a visa of some sort that needs to be signed by the immigration officer when you cross. They also asked for two new passport photos. I don't know exactly what they do, and the website is not very clear either. The letter they sent did say to plan to be with out your passport for 3 weeks. It was sent to the consulate in Los Angeles so it doesn't leave the U.S.
I have a passport card as well so I can still go back and forth by land. It is a little odd as to why they need your passport..
Now you got me thinking! LOL
