restaurant recs downtown...
what restaurants do you recommend downtown? reasonably priced....
i havent eaten at too many places in actual downtown portland, so i'm looking for some recs and...do you have a favorite sushi place downtown? my friend requested sushi tomorrow after we pick her up, so i'd love to take her somewhere that i know will be good!
TIA!
Re: restaurant recs downtown...
I assume by downtown you mean south of Burnside. If not, I've got plenty of recs for the Pearl.
I'm a fan of Masu Sushi...it's right off Burnside behind American Apparel on the S side. 13th I want to say?
Alexis for Greek food. It's tasty.
E-San Thai on SW 2nd and Pine is my favorite Thai in town.
Mother's is great for brunch but, in reality, all of their food is pretty wonderful.
I love Clyde Common (it's across the street from Living Room Theatres).
Saucebox is good for drinks and happy hour. It's kind of on the spendier side for dinner but it's fun and swanky. It has a good vibe and tasty cocktails.
Mama Mia is decent Italian. It's owned by the owners of Mother's.
Pazzo's is fantastic but it's on the pricier side as well...but well worth it.
Red Star Tavern is tasty.
That's all I can think of as my favorites for downtown south of burnside. If you would like to extend your search into the Pearl, I have several other recommendations. And, I should just recommend Andina (even though it's in the Pearl) because it's by far my favorite restaurant in this city...and I think it's the perfect restaurant to display PDX's foodie culture to an out of town guest. Have fun!
Ditto and Ditto!! Friends of ours own E-San, it's great. Yum. They have a cool upstairs loft area that's fun for larger parties.
Also, loooove Mothers. Expensive for brunch and brunch drinks but sooo delicious. Bananas Foster...yuuummm.
What kinds of restaurants are you looking for specifically? There's a lot of great places in Portland : )

Well, in that case...
Nuestra Cocina on SE Division is so tasty. Mexican food but higher end Mexican.
Tart across the street has awesome frozen custard.
Vindalho in the Clinton area is super tasty and fairly reasonable Indian.
Dots, also in Clinton, is great late-night grub. It's open late, fairly inexpensive and yummy (burritos, etc).
Sub Rosa, Clinton, is a great little Italian place. The woman who owns the place is also the server and I just love her and her food.
Toro Bravo on NE Russell for Spanish Tapas. I have yet to actually eat here..every time I go, I can't handle the wait but I have heard nothing but fantastic reviews about this place.
The Sapphire Hotel on upper Hawthorne is good, great stiff drinks and a fun environment.
Sinju in the Pearl has great sushi.
50 Plates in the Pearl is great and fairly reasonably priced.
Hoda's on SE Belmont and 34th has great middle eastern...but you could also do Nicolas' on Grand/MLK (I believe they're owned by the same family).
The Montage is a very Portland thing to do...late night dining, lively and tasty southern/creole food.
The Delta on SE Woodstock also has super tasty southern food.
The Waffle Window (which is like a cart but not) on SE 36th and Hawthorne is so fabulous.
I love Milo's City Cafe on NE Broadway for breakfast.
I also love the food at Caldera on SE Stark and 60th.
Mint/820 has great cocktails. They're on N Russel.
Esparza's Tex Mex Cafe on SE 28th and Ankeny is awesome.
As is Fonda Rosa on NE 28th and Couch-ish.
Ken's Artisan Pizza on SE 28th is tasty as well.
Ok, so, clearly I love to eat. I'll cut it short here as I'm sure I've overwhelmed you at this point. Enjoy!
Ok, so I'm new, and dont' have a ton of recs YET, but...I have gone to a few places I've loved so far:
The Doner Shop (German/Turkish-DH and I PPH Turkish food from living in Germany!)
Paragon (I think it's near the Pearl, close to REI...) GREAT contemporary cuisine. A bit on the pricey side, but yummy! I've also heard great things about Cafe Mingo and Bar Mingo
Learning to start all over again... Blog
I second Toro Bravo. Love it!!! The wait may be long, but you can have cocktails prior to dinner. The food is delicious.
Thai: Cha Ba Thai
Food: Yuki on 23rd
Brunch: Mothers and Besaws
Pizza: Dove Vivi (deeper dish. i think they claim to be deep dish like chicago but it's really not; however I do love thicker pizza)
Favorite that has not been listed yet on the inner east side:
Screendoor
Good call on Screen Door. I'm a fan of it as well.
