That's how I feel!
I'll give you the backstory:
about a year, probably less, ago H & I checked our credit... Mine's fine. On Chris' transunion report was some other lady. She has 4 mortgaged, 2 are closed, 2 are open. and literally about 15 other credit cards, or loans or whatever... We called transunion, wrote them a letter, and assumed it was being taken care of....
fast forward to today-
Mortgage broker calls " You did say that you haven't had any other mortgages right? " me: "We've never owned a house, either of us".... broker: "Uhm, well, there is some stuff on Chris' report that you need to take care of " me: " #$Q#$%(*&$^@#$)%@$^% "
So we go through the whole report, I tell him whats ours, what is this other ladies.... he adds up the minimum pymts of our stuff and tells me that our debt to income ratio is much better then what I told him.... apparently when you tell your "Debt" you only tell what is being reported on your credit report... OHHHHHH.... i told him EVERYTHING... rent, car insurance, cable bill, lol everything!!! So this dropped our debt to income to a level he can work with, thankfully.
I was so upset I cried all the way home. I'm just so frustrated by this! Who knows how long this will actually take to sort out.
I called transunion when I got home... They have H's name wrong. The ladie's name is VERY similar to his. His name is Chris, her name is Christa. our last name is H*R*, her's is H*R*ED... so there is just an ED on the end of her last name... i can see how it would get confused.
So my mom being the crazy lady that she is starts investigating this woman..LOL... first of all, on the credit report it says she's been a "member" since 1977.. Uhm, H was born in 1981.. Some of the credit cards were opened in 1969! hello, thats quite a few years before he was born! So back to my mom..she googled the woman, lol... she found out where the lady lives, how many kids she has, and where the live- it was on some geneaology website- pretty crazy. ...... so my mom is like "Want me to call them"...lol... No Mom, we'll wait and see what TransUnion does before we start calling her kids... Oh, forgot to add that the lady is 71 years old!!
I called Transunion and had the lady change Chris' name on the report, I have to mail a letter with verification of our address and his date of birth. Then we went through every account that wasn't Chris' and she marked it that we were disputing it! It was actually alot easier then i thought it was going to be. kind of worries me how easy it was to get through to them and to get everything disputed. They said the will investigate and mail us a copy of the outcome and the new updated report with in 30 days. So now we wait- i'm horrible at waiting!
I doubt this is a case of fraud, I think something got mixed up in the reports. We have checked H's credit previously and this wasn't on there, and its only on the TransUnion report. A friend of my moms had this happen and it was cleared up with in 10 days, also with TransUnion.

Jena - so sorry to hear you've got to deal with all this crap. What a huge annoyance. Hopefully it will be fairly easily to get cleared up and Transunion will cooperate with you.
Good luck!!! Also - just a random side note. Even though the mortgage people only look at the debt on your credit report, make sure that YOU GUYS looks at all your payments before you get into a mortgage. Try not too buy at the top of your price range, because you don't want to spread yourselves too thin. It can be very stressful.

Yes, we have looked at all of our pymts, that was the number i originally gave the mortgage guy...
The idea of a mortgage scares me, but I know we will be fine. We spend ALOT of money. We go and do whatever we want, whenever we want. we buy whatever , whenever. it's ridiculous... Obviously we know we have to cutback. We already talked about someways we can save money instead of blowing it like it grows on a tree in our backyard.
we'll see. I don't know how long this clearing up thing is going to take. im hoping its going to be a simple fix. i think something just got crossed because their names are so similar.
Whaat a wacky thing to happen!!! Even with the name similarities - what about gender? age? social security number? Bizarre.
Still, it sounds like the person you spoke with was very helpful. Hope this is cleared up before the 30 days so you can move on with your plans!

I have no idea. the WOMAN is 71 yrs old. I don't know where is is "From" but chris is from FL, and has a FL ssn...soo i have no idea how they screwed this up. a friend of my moms said they had the same thing happen to them with transunion... they went to get a loan, someone elses crap was on their report, she said it only took about 10 days to get it cleared up. that would rock if it only took 10 days but i'm not holding my breaht for that.
i did find a house that I loooovvvveeeeee. OMG its amazing! its 4/2. Its an older house. but its only been in the market for a month, so i'm kind of worried it will go quick. but i just have to have faith that if its mean for us it will be there when we are ready for it.
